CHURCH AQUIRES NEW COMPUTER

Acting in response to a recommendation of the Audit Committee, a Task Force was formed to explore getting a new office computer…the old one has been “freezing up” of late and it did not have enough capacity for operating some of the programs.  Jeff Baker found a new computer on sale at Circuit City, and this was purchased using money from the General Memorial Fund.  Our secretary and financial leaders now have a tool that should  help them in their work for several years, and allow us to use the most up-to-date software.

TODAY IS THE DEADLINE

…for submitting articles for the November-December-January newsletter.  Group leaders please take note.

THANKS

…to the youth and several adults of the church who devoted 2 ½ hours last Sunday afternoon to raking leaves at four houses.  Those involved in the servant ministry were: Willie, Ann, and Denny, K and L Sipling, K, S, S and B Frank, A and J Mohr, K Shirk, P and H Rehkugler, S and G Thomas, G Broucht, C Johns, A Kohler, two other children and Pastor.

…to everyone who helped cook and serve last Sunday’s magnificent banquet – the Social Ministry ladies, our youth, Norm, Dick S., Dick B., and George.

…to J and D Baker and Johns for installing our new office computer.

…to those who worked Ivy’s funeral service and luncheon, Charlie, Dick, Norm, Alice, Ruth, Esther, Ginny, Chris, Rose, and Louise.

SAINTS CINEMA UP-GRADE

A dream that was several years in the making is soon to come true.  If all goes as planned, 2007 should see us dedicate an improved “Saints Cinema” room for our Sunday School and youth/adult programming.  John Buffenmyer has been hired to create a three-tiered, removable wooden apparatus atop which Paul Purnell and Pastor, aided by the Property Committee, will install carpeting – procured by G Bachert and theater seats (15) acquired from the former Pacific Theater in Lancaster last year for free!  The project is being funded by the General Memorial Fund.  Come January, stadium-style theater seats will be an exciting new tool for our Christian Education and Fellowship ministry.

GREEK ANYONE?

Pastor proposes that the church van drive to the Lancaster Greek Church after today’s service to eat at their annual festival.  If you’d like to go, or have another idea, talk about it in the elevator lobby.

BIBLE STUDY

…has resumed at Longwood Manor and meets each Wednesday, at 10:00 AM during October and November.  Join us!  We are studying the Gospel of John.  No experience necessary!!  Pastor teaches.

ATTENTION ALL COMMITTEE CHAIRS!

Don’t forget to work on your budget request for 2007 at your November meeting.  Please have it to A Getz, J Leonard or Pastor as soon as possible, but before November 30th.

A REMINDER TO ALL CATECHUMENS!

Don’t forget that we are going on a field trip to Gettysburg on Veteran’s Day, Saturday, November 11th.  Be at the church by 9:00 AM sharp with about $5.00 for lunch at a fast food place…and another couple of dollars for ice cream at Dairy Queen.  There are 8 catechumens, Glenn and Pastor.  That means that there is only room in the van for three mentors.  The other five mentors, and parents that may wish to join us, will have to provide their own transportation.  The agenda includes a tour of the Seminary by one of its greatest Alumni and a romp at Devil’s Den – plus lots of battlefield data by expert Glenn.

“MOO MONEY” FOR THRIVENT BUILDS – HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

Specially marked “Moo Money” milk caps are being collected to help receive funding from Turkey Hill Dairy.  Simply save any of the sticker lids from milk products purchased at a Turkey Hill Mini Market.  A collection box will be placed in the Narthex for your collecting any of them.  Thanks!

CARD SHOWER

G Showalter turns 91 on November 10th.  If you’d like to remember her with a card, her address is:  5 Meadowbrook Lane, Mifflintown, PA 17059.

VERY NICE NEWS

The late Louise Winters, a member of our founding family, the Lindemuths, remembered St. John’s in her Will.  When it is probated, we will receive $2,000  What a blessing it is that the dead continue to serve the living by including the church in their estates!

SYG

..meets from 5:00-7:00 PM at church tonight for pizza and the planning of our Open Mic Night and Lock-in.  All middle and high school youth and their friends are welcome!
