WE THANK EAGLE-SCOUT-TO-BE, DAVID HOFFMANN…

…his dad, the Property Committee, and all who helped with the construction of the beautiful and functional shed which now graces our property.  It blends in wit the church architecture and offers us more storage space than it’s predecessor.  It also is relatively maintenance free and should last a long time.  Azaleas and other smaller plants beautify the area.

THE ALTAR FLOWERS…

…are given to the Glory of God and in celebration of my daughter’s birthday, Jessica, Tuesday, what joy she has brought into my life, JoNan Shirk.

THE BULLETINS…

HARVEST HOME/CROP WALK PRELIMINARY REPORT

Last Sunday, our church and several other congregations in the area, celebrated Harvest Home Sunday in a big way.  At St. John’s, 93 worshipped in the morning and 29 in the evening.  Windows were wonderfully decorated and a large offering of food and $144.00 in cash was given to the Food Bank.

Then at 1 PM, our Praise Band played at a devotional service for 84 walkers on the Crop Walk.  11 of the walkers were St. Johners, and they raised $1,572.50 of the approximately $7,003.50 total raised.

So far, $720.oo has been turned in the walk coordinator, Pastor.  (Please see that Pastor gets your money before November 1st.)

Many walkers brought cans of food to the walk, and these were added to those collected by our own church.  204 items were boxed by our Social Ministry Committee and taken, by Pat and Bill, to the Food Bank.

            The donated foods were:

20 boxes of cereal                              16 jars of jelly

4 pks of pop tarts (aka Vicki food)     4 units of milk

11 bottles of juice                               2 bottles of ketsup

16 boxes of pasta                               14 cans of fruit

7 jars of peanut butter                       7 cans of tuna

8 boxes of hamburger helper 12 cans of veggies

11 cans of beans                                 16 cans of soup

8 boxes of potato                               1 box of stuffing

1 box of cocoa mix                              10 boxes of cake mix

Way to go, St. John’s!

LOTS OF VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED…

…next Sunday at 9 AM.  Come to church armed with a rake and other landscaping tools to help clean up leaves and do other outside work to prepare our building’s grounds for winter.  Questions?  See Dick Baker.  All St. Johners are asked to help out.

THANKS…

…to J.B. Hostetters for donating a new stove to replace the broken one at our shelter, and to Louise Baker and Ed Billman for expediting the gift.

…to Dick and Louise, George, Ginny, Rose L., Esther S., and Pauline J., for doing such a fine job of cleaning the shelter this week.  Thanks also to Vicki for stocking the shelves with food and cleaning supplies and for our Social Ministry Committee for paying for things.

…to WELCA for paying for the cleaning of our parlor, office and tower carpet, and to Dick & Louise Baker and Dick Shirk for moving furniture and cleaning.  (Dick also subbed for our sexton this week and did a great job.)

THE SYMPATHY OF THE CONGREGATION…

…is extended to Mary Ann Getz, whose cousin, Joanne Fetters, died on Thursday of this past week.

ANOTHER CARING OPPORTUNITY

…awaits all members of St. John’s, as our Social Ministry Committee asks you to donate the contents of a “Health Kit”.  An inserts appears in this bulletin that lists items needed for the kit.  Each household in the congregation is asked to donate 1 or 2 kits before December 1.  The kits will be assembled by the committee and taken down to the Lutheran World Relief Warehouse for distribution around the world and elsewhere in the U.S.A.  Our goal is to make 75 kits.  Please help!  A kit costs $10 - $15.
