    Pastor:        O LORD, MAKER OF ALL THINGS, YOU OPEN

CROP WALK TODAY!

   It’s not too late to walk on our Crop Walk or to sponsor a walker.  If you haven’t yet sponsored a walker, the following people will gladly accept your donation: Pastor, JoNan Shirk, Connie Simmons, Pat Vogel, Sue Frank, Katie Frank, Mike Ross, Sonia Ross, Lauren Ross, and Louise Baker.  Walkers should come to register in our parlor between 12:30 pm and 1:00 pm today.  (Reminder to bring the top sheet of your form and a can or box of food for the food bank.)

   The brief devotional service begins at 1:00 pm, led by our Praise Band.

   You can walk the 5 kilometer (3.1 mile) “town walk” or the 5 mile “country walk” (or both!).

  Upon completion of the walk, enjoy a snack (and the great feeling of having done a great good!)

   Persons who help register walkers, serve refreshments, and box food, can join Pastor at 4 for the traditional early supper at the Centerville Friendly’s!

 

ATTENTION SOCIAL MINISTRY COMMITTEE!

   The van will pick up all Maytowners who will be attending the Monday night supper at the Country Table around 5:45 pmMount Joy folks will want to drive themselves.  After supper it’s back to Gladys’ for dessert and our October meeting.  Let’s see all 18 of us there!

 

CONFERENCE STEWARDSHIP MEETING

   The Lancaster Conference of the Church will meet at St. Peter’s in Neffsville for a gathering mandated by our Synod to discuss the larger church’s financial concerns.  Pastor will attend with our President, Pat Vogel, and possibly others.

 

THE GIRL SCOUT TROUP…

…that we house will be having a sleepover at church this Friday night.

 

FIRST COMMUNION CLASS

   Anyone who is baptized but un-confirmed and who does not yet receive Holy Communion is invited to do so following attendance at a special instructional class on Sunday, October 23, from 2:00 til 4:00 pm.  Children, their parents, and their Godparents should attend.  (Tell Pastor if you’re coming.)  Ordinarily, children in grade 5 or older attend, but younger children may also attend with the permission of their parents.

 

NEWSLETTER DEADLINE

   The deadline for the next Newsletter is next Sunday.  The letter covers November – December – January.  It comes our on November 6th.

…to Kelsey Hafer, for being chosen Teen of the Week by the Lancaster New Era, last week!

…to Adam Marsh, Ed Billman’s grandson (Beth’s boy), who was recently awarded his Boy Scout Eagle Badge.  (The ceremony took place at Augustus Lutheran Church in Trappe (Collegeville), PA.

 

JIM LANDIS STARS…

…in another Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, “Trial By Jury”, at the Ephrata Playhouse, this Saturday at 8 pm.  A group of us will leave the church parking lot, aboard the van, at 6:30 pm, to attend the performance.  We go “dutch” and split the cost of gas.  Those going along so fare are: Rose Barr, Ruth Sweitzer, Pastor and Margie Landis.  There are 9 other seats.  Join Us!

 

WORKERS ARE NEEDED…

…to help build a 5th temporary shelter.  This one is located in Florin (Mt. Joy).  Carpenters, masons, plumbers, electricians, and un-skilled laborers are needed.  The work begins on November 12th.  If you will help, please sign-up on the narthex sheet.  Questions?  Talk to Pastor.

 

 VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED…

…to staff a church open house on December 18, from 1 to 4 pm on that Sunday afternoon.  The plan is for all the Maytown churches to be open to visitors, so that Holiday decorations can be displayed and Evangelical outreach accomplished.

   We need:  costumed guides in Colonial attire, one or two people to staff a hospitality table, bakers of holiday treats, singers and instrument players to play in 15 – minute time slots in our sanctuary, as guides lead guests through the building.  See Pastor if you will help.

…are reminded of the need to submit budget requests to the Finance Committee by November.  See Jim, Laura, or Al if you have a question.

 

 

“SIGHT AND SOUND” CHRISTMAS OUTING

   Thirty great tickets have been purchased by the church for the December 3 show at the Strasburg Theater.  Details are posted in the tower.  So far, 13 tickets have been bought.  17 are available.  Join us!  Questions?  Talk to Jan, Connie, or Bill.

 

THE SOCIAL MINISTRY COMMITTEE…

…will be collecting items for “Health Kits”.  See the nice chart which Diane Leonard made in the tower sill and leave your gifts in the large basket nearby.  Please remember that all St. Johners are asked to help donate to this project – not just the committee members.  Questions?  See Louise, Gladys, Diane, or some other Social Ministry member.

THERE WILL BE AN SYG  MEETING

…this afternoon @ 4:30. It's crucial to attend if you plan on going to Winterfest and/or the Gathering. Also, a 15 minute meeting with parents will be held @ 4:15.

The Youth Group is selling t-shirts and sweatshirts with Saint John's logo on them. They are available in children through adult sizes and in gray or white colors. T-shirts cost $15 and sweatshirts are $20. The t-shirts are on display on the elevator bulletin board. Please sign up to purchase one. The youth group will profit $5.00 from each sale.

The youth group is also collecting items for a rummage sale to be held the last Saturday in April. If you have any items you would like to donate, please bring them to the Youth Group Room. (gently used clothing, household items, toys, jewelry)
