The tune comes from Joachim Neander and the words from Gerhard Tersteegen.) (Please sing the German words first, then the 4 English verses in the hymnal.) If you know how to pronounce the German here is the text of verse 1:

THE CONFESSION OF SINS
Pastor: Beloved in the Lord!
Thus saith the high and loftly one that inhabiteth eternity,
whose Name is Holy: I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones: I will not always chide, neither will I keep anger forever: only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against the Lord thy God.
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to clease us from all unrighteousness. Accompany me, therefore, in making confession of sins, Saying:
PEOPLE: I, A POOR SINNER, CONFESS UNTO GOD, MY HEAVENLY FATHER, THAT I HAVE GRIEVEOUSLY AND IN VARIOUS WAYS SINNED AGAINST HIM, NOT ONLY BY OUTWARD AND GROSS SINS, BUT MUCH MORE BY INWARD BLINDNESS OF HEART, UNBELIEF, DOUBT, DESPONDENCY, IMPATIENCE, PRIDE, SELFISHNESS, CARNAL LUSTS, AVARICE, ENVY, HATRED AND MALICE, AND BY OTHER SINFUL PASSIONS WHICH ARE NAKED AND OPEN IN THE SIGHT OF MY LORD AND GOD, BUT WHICH I, ALAS! CANNOT FULLY UNDERSTAND, BUT I DO SINCERELY REPENT, IN DEEP SORROW, FOR THESE MY SINS; AND WITH MY WHOLE HEART I CRY FOR MERCY FROM THE LORD, THROUGH HIS DEAR SON JESUS CHRIST, BEING RESOLVED, WITH THE HELP OF THE HOLY GHOST, TO AMEND MY SINFUL LIFE. AMEN.
(All sit.)
THE KYRIE
ALL: LORD, GOD THE FATHER IN HEAVEN, HAVE MERCY UPON US. LORD GOD THE SON, REDEEMER OF THE WORLD, HAVE MERCY UPON US AND GRANT US THY PEACE. AMEN
THE HYMN OF PRAISE #166

THE SALUTATION
PASTOR: The Lord be with thee.
PEOPLE: AND WITH THY SPIRIT.
THE COLLECT
PASTOR: Let us pray:
O God, thou hast promised through thy Son to be with thy church forever. We give thee thanks for those who founded this community of believers and for the signs of thy presence in our congregation. Increase in us the spirit of faith and love, and make us worthy of our heritage. Knit us together in the communion of saints, and make our fellowship an example to all believers and to all nations. We pray through thy Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
PEOPLE: AMEN
THE OLD TESTAMENT

(The Gospel is read from the 1765 Bible that belonged to Georg Lindemuth, the son of our congregation’s founding layman, Ludwig. It is first read in German and then translated into the King’s English.)

VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED…
…to staff a church open house on December 18, from 1 to 4 pm on that Sunday afternoon. The plan is for all the Maytown churches to be open to visitors, so that Holiday decorations can be displayed and Evangelical outreach accomplished.

COUNCIL HAS AUTHORIZED…
…the purchase of a Plexiglas shield to slightly dampen the sound of the drums at our Praise Service. The cost of the devise is $288. Anyone wishing to donate the shield, and spare the church’s budget, is asked to speak to Pastor or Sound System Improvement Task Force Chairman, JoNan.
GREAT FOOD TODAY!
