SERVICE PROJECT!!

On October 29th, our Senior Youth Group would love to serve our members by doing work around your house.  If you are a senior citizen (or have a special circumstance that requires our help) please fill out the enclosed form and give it to Pastor, Sue Frank, or Diane Leonard…or mail it to church, before October 22nd.  Please let our youth serve you as servants of the one who served us all!

WORD ABOUT THE SCHOOL KIT APPEAL

Our Social Ministry Committee asks all member families to contribute the components of one school kit, as listed on the shopping list found on the tower windowsill with the large collection basket.  You can buy the cloth bag at The Rag Shop, A. C. Moore, or elsewhere.  The whole kit will cost about $15.00.  Place your kit, with the contents in the bag, in the basket between now and October 15th. If you have saved your receipts, they can go in the basket as well. Thank you!!

MAYTOWN HISTORICAL SOCIETY PRESENTS…

  A LOG HOUSE TOUR

On Saturday, November 4th from 11:00 AM until 5:00 PM eight log homes in the Maytown-East Donegal area will be open for viewing.  Refreshments may be had at the “Royal George Coffee Shop.”  Tour admission would be $8.00 prior to the day of the tour and $10.00 on tour day.  For information and tickets call Shirl at 426-4390 or Sue at 426-2786.

HOMES OF HOPE

Vicki has posted a letter, in the Tower Narthex, containing needed items for the rebuilt shelter.  Please take a look and see if there is something you are able to give.  If you have any questions, please speak to Vicki.

CROP WALK ’06

On Sunday, October 15th, our church will again host the local crop walk, to fight hunger, for the 20th time.  Over the years, the walk has raised over $125,000 – with ¼ of that given to the Donegal-Conoy Christian Food Bank.  Our congregation generally raises between $1,500 and $2,000 each year – but we need your help to do that!  Please walk and/or support a walker.  So far 11 of us have signed-up to walk and gotten sponsor forms.  Please seek them out and offer your support.  They are:

JoNan Shirk            Kaycee Shirk             Mike Ross

Sonia Ross               Connie Simmons        Pat Vogel

Chris Harnish         Louise Baker              George McConnell            Willie Weller            Sue Frank      Spencer Frank

Katie Frank            Anne Leonhart         Alex Leonhart

      Pastor

ATTENTION ALL HARVEST HOME DECORATORS!

please remember to have your decorations in place by 9:00 AM next Sunday and leave them up for two weeks…or even three this year!  Just make sure any perishable items are removed in a timely fashion.  Thank you!

SYG MEETING/CAMPFIRE TONIGHT

All St. Johners in middle school and high school are invited to come to a meeting at church tonight at 5:30 PM, followed by “smores” and a campfire at the Franks’ house.  Wear old clothing, bring a friend or two if you like.  The van will be available for transportation.  Questions?  Talk to Sue.

PROPERTY COMMITTEE MEMBERS

…are reminded of our meeting on Monday at 7:00 PM.

BIBLE STUDY

…resumed at Longwood Manor last Wednesday, at 10:00 AM.  We shall meet each Wednesday thereafter, during October and November.  Join us!  We are studying the Gospel of John.  No experience necessary!!  Pastor teaches.

JUNIOR CHOIR RESUMES

…this Wednesday night at 6:45 PM!  Janie is counting on all her troops of cherubs to be there for some great music, praise of God, and fun.  All pre-teens are welcome.

SATURDAY’S HAYRIDE

…please be at the church at 5:00 PM, sharp.  Make your check for $20.00 per person payable to “St. John’s Lutheran Church” and give it to Pastor as you leave church today.  Questions?  Talk to Bill or Connie…367-4917.

ATTENTION ALL ST. JOHNERS!

Next Sunday we will receive a special offering to benefit the Food Bank.  Fruit juice is greatly needed, as well as peanut butter and jelly, but you can donate anything that is not homemade, or cash.  All CROP walkers are reminded of our goal to each bring at least one can of food to the walk, itself.

BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS

October is traditionally the month that the church remembers St. Francis of Assisi, who had a legendary love of “all creatures of our God and King”.  Most of us love animals too – and we recognize them as a great gift from God.

In recent years, many churches have had special rites by which they ask to bless their pets.  Now, St. John’s is offering that opportunity to you.  If you’d like to have your animal family member blessed, bring him or her to the church parking lot on Sunday, October 22nd, at 2:00 PM.  Make sure that “Spot” is on a leash and “Puff” is in a cage to insure a peaceful time together!

THE CHURCH VAN

…will drive to Friendly’s for supper and ice cream after the CROP walk clean up is completed.  If you help, you are welcome to go along.

THANKS

…to Janie Mohr, Bruce Sipling, and Jennifer Repine for chaperoning the Junior Choir miniature golf outing in September.  Thanks also to the 11 great kits that went!

THE LUTHERAN HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF LANCASTER COUNTY

…will hold its Fall Meeting on Sunday, October 15th at 3:00 o’clock in Zion Church, Marietta.  The historical presentation will be followed by the annual business meeting and a social hour.  Zion Church is located on Route 441 in Marietta.  All members and friends are invited.

NOVEMBER DEADLINE NEARS

…please help the project at the two Green Street, Lancaster, sites being rehabilitated by Thrivent Builds/Lutheran Task Force/Habitat for Humanity finish on time.  Our deadline is November 30, 2006 to finish both houses.  We still have a lot of work to complete and a short time frame.  Volunteers are needed especially for Wednesdays through Fridays.  Individuals or teams are welcome.  To schedule work crews or for more information, call Mark Spiridigliozzi of Thrivent, 431-5201.  Please continue to pray for this project.
