FIRST COMMUNION COURSE
Baptized but un-confirmed children in the congregation who are not presently receiving Holy Communion are invited to attend a class, with their parents, God-parents, and Pastor, at church, on Sunday, October 23, at 2:30pm. Communicants are usually about 10 years old or older – buy younger children may also attend if, in the judgment of their parents, the time is right. The class will last about 2 hours.
THE DEADLINE…
…for signing up for the Downer Day Pork and Sauerkraut Feast, next Sunday, is today. Please help us prepare enough food but not too much to waste. All who plan on attending should sign up including all Social Ministry Workers. So far, as of press time, only 42 people had signed up on the narthex sheet. This is but 1/3 of our usual turnout. Don’t miss this great meal and help celebrate our German Heritage!
HARVEST HOME WINDOW DECORATIONS…
…are urgently needed. There are 10 windowsills available and only 4 have been claimed. Help us beautify our sanctuary for Harvest Home Sunday, October 16, and for the Crop Walk later that day. Use your creativity and pick any theme that celebrates God’s blessings. The sign-up sheet is in the office.
“SIGHT AND SOUND” CHRISTMAS OUTING
Thirty great tickets have been purchased by the church for the December 3 show at the Strasburg Theater. Details are posted in the tower. So far, 13 tickets have been bought. 17 are available. Join us! Questions? Talk to Jan, Connie, or Bill.
FIDDLE FEST
Gene Rehkugler will showcase his 4 violin students’ accomplishments at a special recital in our church on Saturday, October 15, at 6:00 pm. See Gene, Paul or Harry do their stuff!
WE THANK KEITH…
…for subbing for Marilyn at tonight’s Contemporary Service. Thanks for coming to our rescue, Keith!
CHECK OUT OUR NEW SHED!
It is a thing of beauty that fits in well with our building and grounds. David Hoffmann, his dad, and members of the Property Committee are doing a great job.
WE ALSO THANK…
…Bruce and Linda for procuring 3 more computers for our computer lab at church. Thanks to Lancaster County for donating them to us!
STILL NEEDED!
…someone to be in charge of serving a snack for the younger children at Sunday school. See Pastor or Missy if you will be that someone. Church will pay for the food, you need only pick it up and serve it. The usual number of hungry mouths is less than 20. God Bless You For Caring.
BLANKET SUNDAY REPORT
The congregation donated 5 blankets and $193 in cash last Sunday. Thank you.
THANK YOU ALL
I want to thank everyone for their cards, while in the hospital, and a special thanks to Pastor Bob, for his prayers and visits. It meant a lot to me. God Bless you, Hazel Bachert
THE SOCIAL MINISTRY COMMITTEE…
…will be collecting items for “Health Kits”. See the nice chart which Diane Leonard made in the tower sill and leave your gifts in the large basket nearby. Please remember that all St. Johners are asked to help donate to this project – not just the committee members. Questions? See Louise, Gladys, Diane, or some other Social Ministry member.
THANKS…
…to Jack Frank, for helping us to figure out what’s wrong with our van’s air-conditioning system.
A ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING…
…will be held on Oct 6th Thursday 2005 @ 7:00 PM for the youth group Costume & Halloween Party in the basement of our Church. All are welcome at this meeting. We need your help. This is a non funded event of the church. We will need your support to supply items needed and money. This event for St. John's Youth Group, is open to all people from 1st grade to high school. Some of our youth don't regularly attend Church at St John's. We encourage you to come if you can, but church membership is not a deterrent from your participation in St John's Youth Group events. All are welcome.
SENIOR YOUTH GROUP…
… will be meeting today @4:30. Reminder to the youth to bring a can of food for the food bank.
The Youth Group is selling t-shirts and sweatshirts with the Saint John’s logo on them. They are available in children through adult sizes and in gray or white colors. T-shirts cost $15 and sweatshirts are $20. The t-shirts are on display on the elevator bulletin board. Please sign up to purchase one. The youth group will profit $5.00 from each sale.
