HARVEST HOME WINDOWS
This year, St. John’s will move our celebration of “Harvest Home” Sunday from the third Sunday of October to the second October 12th. That way, people can still sing traditional hymns that better fit the occasion.
If you will help continue our long tradition of decorating the church’s 10 large window sills with harvest/Thanksgiving - themed displays, please sign up on the tower poster as soon as possible. Decorations may be left in place from October 12th through the rest of the month…provided that perishables are “refreshed”. Thanks for helping! Let your artistic and creative spirits soar!

QUILT RAFFLE
Tickets are still available for our raffle of a fine Bible quilt that is on display in the parlor. $5.00 given to Pastor or Diane buys a chance on the November drawing… which benefits our belfry repair fund.

THIS SUNDAY
…we begin a four-Sunday long series on Stewardship using the “Walk With Jesus” program. Bulletin inserts, brief Temple Talks, and follow-up mailings will factor in the first three weeks, and we shall have a guest preacher preach on October 19th for Commitment Sunday, when all are asked to make an “estimate of giving” for the coming year. Please attend all four services and help our church to grow.
LONGWOOD MANOR BIBLE STUDY…begins October 1st at 10:00 am, the chapel at the home.
BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS RITE
We shall again offer a Blessing Of The Animals Service on Saturday, October 4th at 1:00 pm, in the social hall. Bring your caged or manageable pets on a leash and invite your friends and neighbors to do likewise. Light refreshments for ALL will be available afterwards. Volunteers are needed to help with arrangements. See Pastor as soon as possible.
C.R.O.P. WALK 2008
See Pastor for a CROP Walk sponsor form after church today, and walk on the October 19th walk to feed the hungry. Also - please approach walkers to sponsor them. Our local food bank has a tremendous need, and one fourth of the money, plus possible Thrivent matching funds, go toward that important ministry.
TONIGHT! NEW BIBLE STUDY BEGINS
Join Pastor in the parlor tonight at 7:00 pm for the first session of a new Bible study produced by the ELCA called “Opening The Book of Faith”. The group will meet on the first and last Sundays of each month and is aimed at both beginners in Bible study and also “veterans”. See you at 7!
HEAD USHERS NEEDED!!
We still need Head Ushers for two remaining months of 2008. Please sign up on the tower narthex sheet TODAY. Head ushers get four volunteers for each Sunday of the month. Talk to Charlie Johns if you have a question.
THINKING ABOUT KNITTING OR CROCHETING???
It’s soon time to think about cold weather and knitting, football games and knitting, keeping warm and knitting, keeping your hands busy and knitting, making something for the Women’s and Baby’s hospital and knitting, getting together with friends and knitting, meeting at St. John’s on Friday nights and knitting, beginning on October 10th at 7:00. Hopefully anyone that is thinking about knitting or would love to learn how to knit will join us. We will have patterns for premature and new born babies, baby booties and blankets, lap robes, prayer shawls. There is no age limit, everyone is welcome. Please join us, it’s one of life’s little stress reliefs!! If you have a question or are hesitating, please talk to Diane. If you would like a refresher course before we begin, talk to Diane. If you are anxious to start, talk to Diane!!!
Please note, the word “knitting” may
be replaced with “crocheting”!
