DID YOU PICK UP YOUR FALL NEWSLETTER YET?

If not, please do so today, and if you notice a friend or neighbor hasn’t yet picked up their copy – please deliver it.  Help us save on postage and stay a closely-connected congregation.  Thanks.

SENIOR YOUTH MEET THIS AFTERNOON

If you (or son or daughter) are in grades 6 – 12, please know that the Youth Group (SYG) will hold a meeting at 4:30 pm today, in the youth room.  Come and support your new adult leader, Sue Frank, and discuss what you’d like to see our group do in the coming year.  Friends of member youth are welcome, too!

ONE REASON….

…we moved our Contemporary Service to 6 pm from 7:30 pm, was so that families with children could more easily attend the service.  Now, we need you young families to support the service.  Hope to see you tonight.

SOCIAL MINISTRY UPDATE

Our meeting will be held Monday September 18th, 7:00 at church.  We will not be dining out this month.

PRAISE BAND MEMBERS

We shall rehearse on Tuesday at 6:30 so that the sound consultant from “Sight and Sound” can hear us and offer his advice on how to better enhance our music electronically.  Everyone please be there.  Also members of the task force are asked to attend.  Questions?  See Jo.

CROP WALK 2005

On Tuesday at 7 pm, the organizational meeting for the Annual Crop Walk will be held in our parlor.  If you’d like to help organize the walk, join us.

BIBLE STUDY ON REVELATION…

…began last week with a number of new faces present from Longwood Manor and our church.  It’s not too late for you to join us.  Just bring a Bible to Longwood Manor on Wednesday at 10 am.  We are only on Chapter 1.

SENIOR CHOIR STILL NEEDS SINGERS

If you are a teen or an adult, show up on Wednesday at 7:30 pm, and we’ll give you some music!  St. John’s has always had a big choir for the size of our church, and we are down to 13 – so we need you.  Join us!

SPECIAL COLLECTION NEXT SUNDAY

The last Sunday in September is traditionally the Sunday we call “Blanket Sunday:, because we, along with the other churches of our Synod, collect cash and blankets on that day.  The need is always great – and this year it’s even greater, with all the natural disasters.  Please donate new or used (clean) blankets, or at least $5.00 to buy a blanket and help clothe your neighbor.

URGENT NEED!!!

We have a great Sunday school program now with a number of dedicated and skilled teachers and almost 20 enthusiastic students, but we desperately need 3 or more people to volunteer to fill 2 jobs.  (Our teaching staff has to fill in the gaps until someone steps forward, and this is not right.  Christian education is all of our business.)

We are in need or someone (or someones) to serve a light snack.  (You need not pay for it yourself, but you have to get it at the store and serve it to the kids.  Church will reimburse you.)

We are also in need of 2 “shepherds”.  Shepherds go with the children to their workshops and help them and the workshop teacher to have a better experience.  At present, we have only 2 shepherds because 2 did not return from last year, and that means the shepherds have to work every Sunday.  It would be so much nicer if they could work only twice a month.

Please see Pastor or Missy Chapman if you will help us with these important jobs.  Thanks for caring.

WE THANK…

…those who continue working on our new shed.  It looks great!

…the Getzes, for donating another computer for our “Bible Bytes” workshop.

…to Ginny Zimmerman for her gift of coins saved for our Sunday School program by her mother, Minny Wittick.  It will be put to very good use as we start our Sunday School Season.
