FALL ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL

…whether you will be attending the 9:00 am contemporary service or the 11:00 am traditional service…or both, we’d like to remind everyone that Adult Sunday School resumes September 10th at its new time - 10:00 am - 10:45 am. Sheri Hafer will be leading the discussion of “Joy: How to Rejoice in Any Situation”, a Fruit of the Spirit Bible study. Following this six week curriculum, Ruth Sweitzer will be presenting “10 Key Events from the Bible”, which will deepen our understanding of our faith. You’re invited to join us every week or just for the sessions you are able to attend. St. Johners and our visitors are always welcome!

 

SCHOOL KITS

…Social Ministry will be collecting completed school kits for Lutheran World Relief to distribute to children in need of them.  A “shopping list” has been inserted for your shopping convenience.  It would be best if you purchase all the items and put them in to the canvas bag.  If you could keep and hand in your receipts for the items along with your “kit”, they would be used toward the matching funds from Thrivent. The kits will be collected some time toward the end of October.  If you have any questions, please talk to either Gladys or Louise.  The committee’s first meeting of the season will this Monday… The van will pick up the Maytown folks at the church parking lot at 6:00 PM or at your home (let Pastor know ahead of time) and then pick up the Mount Joy folks shortly there after at Gladys Ney’s house to go to Rockwell’s in Elizabethtown for dinner and then to Gladys’ house afterwards.

 

MAYTOWN HISTORICAL SOCIETY PRESENTS…

  A LOG HOUSE TOUR

On Saturday, November 4th from 11:00 AM until 5:00 PM eight log homes in the Maytown-East Donegal area will be open for viewing.  Refreshments may be had at the “Royal George Coffee Shop.”  Tour admission would be $8.00 prior to the day of the tour and $10.00 on tour day.  For information and tickets call Shirl at 426-4390 or Sue at 426-2786.

 

THE SENIOR YOUTH GROUP

…which is open to your ages 11-18, will hold its first meeting of the new season tonight at 5:00 PM.  Come to help plan the year’s calendar.  Non-members are welcome too!  See Sue Frank if you have a question.

AUTUMN EVENT

…October 14th to McCurdy’s Farm – Hayride, cookout, warm drinks, bonfire and hymn sing.  Come and join in the fun!  The cost is $20.00 per person.  We will leave from the church parking lot at 5:00 PM and return about 10:00 PM.

 

NEXT SUNDAY                     

…we will shall receive six new members into our body, at the 11:00 AM Traditional Service.  Those uniting with us will be Andy and Lisa Moss, Anne Leonhart, Linda Sipling, and Annetta and Noah Barnes.  Our WELCA will host a reception in honor of our new family members, following the service.

 

ATTENTION COUNCIL MEMBERS

…you are reminded of our Special Meeting with the Synodical Representative at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, in the Parlor.  The meeting’s purpose is to do some sharing between our congregation and the wider church telling one another’s stories and lifting up accomplishments and needs.

We welcome into the Church of Jesus Christ, this day, Sarah Ellen Moss, who was born on Christmas Eve of last year.  Her parents are Andrew and Lisa Moss and she lives on Alexandria Court…off of Coffee Goss Road.  Her father and mother will join church, officially, next Sunday.  We welcome Sarah into our family-in-Christ and pray that God’s love will ever embrace her.

 

FLOWERS ON THE ORGAN

…are placed there by Pastor in thanksgiving to God for His watching over his father and extending his life here.  The cancer that was found in his lung at the end of last year appears not to have grown yet.

 

HELPERS NEEDED

…on Saturday, November 4th, the Historical Society will offer a House Tour of Maytown.  One of the venues on the tour is the “Royal George Coffee House” – a dessert and beverage café.  People are needed to dress in colonial attire and serve as waiters/waitresses and kitchen platers/dish washers.  If you will help, please contact Pastor as soon as possible.  The café will be located in Pascale Herzog’s house (near the Frank’s) and hours of operation will be from about noon until 4 PM.  We also need cooks willing to make a fancy dessert.  Proceeds benefit the Museum and the Society.

 

PROPERTY HELPERS NEEDED

…the Property Committee is in need of more members to help maintain our buildings and grounds.  We especially need help with clean up outside the church.  If you will help, please talk to Dick Baker today.  Thank you.

 

JR. CHOIR

…our season kick-off event will be a trip to Jim Macks for miniature golf on October 8th at 2:00 PM.  The first practice will be October 11th at 6:45 PM and November 12th Jr. Choir will sing it’s first anthem.  We welcome all children ages 4-12 years to join Jr. Choir.  We have neat music and children may sing solo, duets, etc. and play instruments.
