DON’T FORGET TO PICK UP YOUR NEWSLETTER TODAY!!
…it awaits you in your elevator lobby mailbox.
CROP WALK SPONSOR FORMS
…are available from Pastor. The walk occurs October 15th.
ATTENTION COMMITTEE AND GROUP LEADERS!
Tonight, at 7:00 PM, the final session of the New Member/Inquirer class will be held in the parlor. The subject of the class will be “St. John’s Organization”. Please come sometime between 7:30 and 8:30 and be prepared to give a 5-10 minute talk on what your group does. Questions??…see Pastor. Thank you!
FALL ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL
…whether you will be attending the 9:00 am contemporary service or the 11:00 am traditional service…or both, we’d like to remind everyone that Adult Sunday School resumes September 10th at its new time - 10:00 am - 10:45 am. Sheri Hafer will be leading the discussion of “Joy: How to Rejoice in Any Situation”, a Fruit of the Spirit Bible study. Following this six week curriculum, Ruth Sweitzer will be presenting “10 Key Events from the Bible”, which will deepen our understanding of our faith. You’re invited to join us every week or just for the sessions you are able to attend. St. Johners and our visitors are always welcome!
BIBLE STUDY???
Pastor has asked the Question: “Do people want the mid-week morning Bible Study at Longwood Manor to continue?” About 8-10 residents of the home have indicated a willingness to attend, but Pastor is reluctant to commit to the ministry if he cannot count on church members to be there too, to help carry the discussion forward. If you will attend the Wednesday study, from 10-11 AM, starting October 4th, please tell Pastor.
Quilting?
In late September or early October, Vernetta Wallander will lead a training session on simple quilting – the kind we do to make blankets for the poor. The quilt tops are sewn by Vernetta…and perhaps others, and then they are fashioned into quilts with tied and knotted yarn. You need not be a seamstress to do the work. Look for a future bulletin announcement or a date for the workshop, and talk to Vernetta if you have a question.
SINGERS WANTED!
…we would love to welcome more singers to our Senior Choir. How about YOU? Just show up at Wednesday Choir practice at 7:30 PM.
SCHOOL KITS
…Social Ministry will be collecting completed school kits for Lutheran World Relief to distribute to children in need of them. A “shopping list” has been inserted for your shopping convenience. It would be best if you purchase all the items and put them in to the canvas bag. If you could keep and hand in your receipts for the items along with your “kit”, they would be used toward the matching funds from Thrivent. The kits will be collected some time toward the end of October. If you have any questions, please talk to either Gladys or Louise. The committee’s first meeting of the season will be Monday, September 18th…place to be announce (for sure an eating establishment)…come join us!!!
MAYTOWN HISTORICAL SOCIETY PRESENTS…
A LOG HOUSE TOUR
On Saturday, November 4th from 11:00 AM until 5:00 PM eight log homes in the Maytown-East Donegal area will be open for viewing. Refreshments may be had at the Royal George Coffee Shop. Tour admission would be $8.00 prior to the day of the tour and $10.00 on tour day. For information and tickets call Shirl at 426-4390 or Sue at 426-2786.
THE SENIOR YOUTH GROUP
…which is open to your ages 11-18, will hold its first meeting of the new season next Sunday at 5:00 PM. Come to help plan the year’s calendar. Non-members are welcome too! See Sue Frank if you have a question.
FLEA MARKET THIS SATURDAY
The Youth Group invites members of the congregation to either “purchase” a table for $10, and sell items you would like to get rid of or patronize the flea market in our parking lot…or social hall if rain. A sign-up sheet for table renters hangs in the Narthex. The $10 will go toward the local food bank. The Youth Group’s own stand will have profits dedicated to the Manow Lutheran Pro-Seminary, in Tanzania. Questions? See Vicki McConnell.
BLANKETS
…and cash to buy blankets, will be collected at both services on September 24th.
RUTH NEWCOMER
…moved to St. Ann’s Home, outside of Columbia, on Thursday. Visit her or send her a card!
THANKS!
…Sheri Hafer, Vicki McConnell, Pastor and Diane Leonard for your hard work painting the wonderful new Sunday School panels (and Jim Leonard for fastening and hanging them) that illustrate 12 of the Parables our youth will study this year!
