Parody of “Chattanooga Choo-Choo”

Written by Pastor for this occasion.

Pardon me Pal…is that the Gospel-tellin’ Choo Choo?

Track 29…

Hey can you gim-me the time?

I can af-ford

To board that Gospel-tellin’ Choo Choo

I’ve got my fare…it’s free to all, every-where!

You leave the Saint John’s state-ly sta-tion

‘Bout a quar-ter past six,

Sing and read a Bi-ble stor-y in Beth-le-hem.

Din-ner in the din-er…

Noth-ing could be fin-er,

Than to eat with Je-sus first in Cana then with Si-mon!

When you hear the shep-herd speak of sheep lost and found,

Then you know that love is near – in fact, all around!

Shov-el all the coal in

Gotta keep all rollin’!

Woo! Woo! Gospel king-dom, there you are!

There’s gonna be

A certain par-ty at the sta-tion…

Arms o-pen wide,

His name is Je-sus, our guide!

He’s gonna say:

“You all are welcome here, you need not roam!”

So Gospel-tellin’ Choo Choo,

Won’t you Choo-Choo me home!

Gospel-tellin’ Choo Choo,

Won’t you Choo-Choo me home!

The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
  creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit
  the holy catholic Church
  the communion of saints
  the forgiveness of sins
  the resurrection of the body
  and the life everlasting.

Amen.

PASTOR ON EMERGANCY LEAVE

There is a possibility that Pastor will take the last week of his vacation starting tomorrow, due to the need to help his father relocate from Florida to our area.  All planned meetings will still be held this week, due to their importance.

WHAT TO DO ABOUT HE FALL?

On September 10, Catechetics and Sunday School will resume, and we shall need to reorganize our worship schedule.  What will it look like?  Will we continue to offer two different services each Sunday morning?  If so, when?  Which would be first?  Would it be better to return the Praise Service to Sunday night – or what about Saturday?  So many questions.  So many opinions.  What schedule would serve God and His people best?

If you have any wisdom to share with the church leadership, please attend a special joint meeting of the Worship & Music committee and Christian Education committee on Thursday of this week, in the parlor, starting at 7:00 PM.

Choir and Praise Band members are especially urged to attend, as are council deacons – but any one who worships here or who attends Sunday School is welcome.

It is hoped that some consensus proposal will emerge, and council will decide the matter at their own special meeting on August 15th.

Pray for a spirit of discernment and unity.

CONVALESCING FROM RECENT SURGICAL PROCEDURES ARE

…Karen Sweitzer, Shirl Reich and Chris Deim

CONGRATULATIONS

…to Suzie Young and her fiancé, Michael Daily, who became wife and husband at our altar yesterday.  Suzie is the daughter of Sue Young and the late Ken Young, and the sister of Sonia Young Ross.  May God Bless their union.

WORSHIP & MUSIC NIGHT OUT

Members and spouses of the Worship and Music committee are reminded of our night out on Saturday at 6:30 PM.  We shall dine at the Symposium Restaurant in Centerville and enjoy the company of Bob Brinser and his wife.  Talk to Keith if you have a question.  Committee members are: Joyce Boyer, Keith Smith, Janelle Hollinger, Charlie Johns, Pat Vogel and Pastor.

WOODY’S CRAB FEAST!

Next Sunday, at noon, we shall travel to Northeast, Maryland, for our annual ”Pilgrimage” to the “shrine” of one of our area’s best crab cakes, “Woody’s”.  Two seats are still un-claimed on the van.  If you want to join us, it’s first come, first served.  We will return between 6 and 7 PM.  We go “Dutch” and van riders split the cost of gas…about $3 each.

THE NEXT NEW MEMBERS/INQUIRER’S CLASS

…will be held on Sunday, the 13th, at 7 PM, in the Parlor.  We shall discuss Holy Communion and Worship in the Lutheran Church.  Attendees include Pastor – the teacher, Betty Henny, Chris Harnish, Linda Sipling, Anne Leonhart, Carol Medlick, Buffy Shirk and Andy and Lisa Moss.  Any present or prospective member is welcome.

LUTHER VIDEO

…will the person who borrowed our copy of the new Luther videotape please return it to Pastor?  Thank you…we need it.

HARRIET SMITH

…would very much like visits from St. Johner’s on a regular, weekly basis.  She lives alone and often sees no one for many days.  If you will make this ministry of friendship your own, please talk to Pastor at once.  Thank you.

ALL ST. JOHNER’S WHO ARE LEAVING FOR COLLEGE THIS FALL

…are urged to be present at a special service on Sunday, August 20th, at 9:30 AM.  The service will include a little rite of “God Speed” to send you on your way with our prayers.  Tell Pastor if you will come.

THE OFFERING COLLECTED AT VBS

…will be given to the fund that supports Amanda McConnell’s Seminary education.  The amount raised was about $125.

WE WELCOME ALL

…who are sharing today’s special VBS service with us and invite you to stay for the picnic afterwards and share in our family in Christ on any Sunday or weekday.  We thank God for your presence.
