HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LILLIAN!
We wish a Happy Birthday to our good friend and second oldest member, Lillian Johnstin, who turns 97 today. Lillian is the mother of our President, Pat Vogel. Long a resident of a Maytown farm, the Marietta native now lives at Moravian Manor, in Lititz.
PLEASE PICK UP YOUR NEWSLETTER!
When last we checked, about 30 families or individual members had not picked up their newsletter from the elevator lobby boxes, in which they have reposed for three weeks. If you haven’t picked your up…and read it, please do so today, and save the church a wasteful expense for postage. Thank you!
WOODY’S FOR CRABS AND SHOPPING
Our annual “Pilgrimage” for crab at Woody’s Restaurant in Northeast MD will occur on Sunday, August 12th. If you’d like to go along on the van, sign up by August 5th. There are only 12 seats available on the van, so sign-up soon if you want to occupy one. We leave after church, around 11:45 AM, dine at about 1:30 PM, walk around Northeast window shopping, antiquing, and ice cream cone licking for an hour or so, and get back home by 6:00 PM or so. We go “Dutch” and share the cost of gas.
WHITEWATER RAFTING!
Pastor is trying to put together another whitewater rafting adventure on the Lehigh River. This time, he’d like us to go on a “dam release day” which offers a faster, more exciting ride…but which is not a dangerous rapids.
We need at least 20 people to get a group discount, which is about $50 per person – plus $7 more for a box lunch. Teen members of St. John’s will have part or all of their cost subsidized by the church. Everyone age 8 and above can go along. Friends of teens can go too, if there is room, but they must pay the full price and we must have adequate adult supervision.
There are two dates that are possible – Saturday, August 18 and Saturday, September 15. The date that gets the biggest support will be the one chosen.
If interested, you must sign-up before July 22nd and indicate the dates that you could go, not just the one you prefer.
These are very popular trips so we must act quickly if we are to have a chance to get on the river.
If
you have never done this before, you really should experience it. It is
perfectly safe and loads of fun. Sign up today!
ST. JOHN’S OFFERS VBS ON JULY 30th to AUGUST 3rd
All are urged to encourage children ages 3-13 to attend our VBS next week, from 6:30 PM to 8:40 PM, Monday through Friday. Invite your children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, neighbors, and friends. Let’s improve upon last year’s nice crowd of 65.
