RUMMAGE SALE WRAP-UP

On July 5, 6, and 7, our church held a rummage sale to benefit the youth ministry.  As a result of a lot of giving and hard work, exactly $1,000 in profit was realized!  Thanks to all who donated items and who bought others’.  Thanks also to our sale organizers, sellers, and dismantlers including Sheri Hafer, Vicki and Daniel McConnell, Sue, Bob, Katie, and Spencer Frank, Ann and Willy Weller, Samuel and Gabrielle Thomas, Paul and Harry Rehkugler, Angelica Mohr and helpers from the Mount Joy Presbyterian Church whose thrift shop “inherited” what we didn’t sell.

THANKS

...to Dick Baker, for mounting our VBS sign.

...to Chris and Mark Harnish, for their work in replacing an old metal drain cover with a concrete one,  The cover serves to inhibit water seepage into the social hall.

GLENN MILLER SHOW

Those who bought tickets for the Glenn Miller show at the American Music Theater are asked to come to the church parking lot at 6:00 PM on Saturday evening to either board the van or car pool for the 7 PM curtain.  Twenty-two are going along and the van holds 13.  Questions?  Talk to Connie Longenecker,

ANNA MOVES!

Our senior member, Anny Houseal, who broke her wrist two weeks ago, has moved to Longwood Manor.  She welcomes visitors from her church family and plans to stay an active participant in our community of faith…especially after her wrist heals.  Her address is Anna K. Houseal, c/o Longwood Manor, P. O. 610, Maytown, PA 17550.

SOCIAL MINISTRY FUN OUTING TO GRETNA

Pastor will start to pick up Maytown people at 5:45 PM tomorrow night, for the trip to the Jigger Shoppe.  He will then swing by the church at 6:00 to see if anyone is waiting there, and finally stop in Mount Joy at Gladys Ney’s to pick the borough’s people.  He will pick up Betty and Jan along the way at their homes.

WOODY’S FOR CRABS AND SHOPPING

Our annual “Pilgrimage” for crab at Woody’s Restaurant in Northeast MD will occur on Sunday, August 12th.  If you’d like to go along on the van, sign up by August 5th.  There are only 12 seats available on the van, so sign-up soon if you want to occupy one.  We leave after church, around  11:45 AM, dine at about 1:30 PM, walk around Northeast window shopping, antiquing, and ice cream cone licking for an hour or so, and get back home by 6:00 PM or so.  We go “Dutch” and share the cost of gas.

DID YOU PICK UP YOUR NEWSLETTER?

…if not, please do so.  It awaits you in your elevator mailbox.

WHITEWATER RAFTING!

Pastor is trying to put together another whitewater rafting adventure on the Lehigh River.  This time, he’d like us to go on a “dam release day” which offers a faster, more exciting ride…but which is not a dangerous rapids.

We need at least 20 people to get a group discount, which is about $50 per person – plus $7 more for a box lunch.  Teen members of St. John’s will have part or all of their cost subsidized by the church.  Everyone age 8 and above can go along.  Friends of teens can go too, if there is room, but they must pay the full price and we must have adequate adult supervision.

There are two dates that are possible – Saturday, August 18 and Saturday, September 15.  The date that gets the biggest support will be the one chosen.

If interested, you must sign-up before July 22nd and indicate the dates that you could go, not just the one you prefer.

These are very popular trips so we must act quickly if we are to have a chance to get on the river.

If you have never done this before, you really should experience it.  It is perfectly safe and loads of fun.  Sign up today!
