AND

Pastor:  Most Holy and Heavenly Father, O thou in whom we see the highest and best image of our creator, sustainer, and protector – and by whose example we, thy people, are constantly challenged to imitate thy will and thy way, we give thanks for those special people whom thou hast sent us to know thy love, and whom we called and honored as “father” – both those who gave us physical life and those many other men and women who have been fathers to our faith – even as we ask that we, ourselves, be strengthened and empowered to serve as fathers to others.

Bless us all as we endeavor to be your family, Father, and grant unto thy faithful stewards and co-fathers a sense of peace and purposefulness about the work that they have done, and that, by thy grace, they continue to do.  For in Jesus Christ’s name, the Father’s beloved Son, we pray this and every prayer.

ANNUAL JUNE CONGREGATIONAL MEETING – TODAY

Please stay after today’s Traditional Service – and arrive early for the Contemporary Service – to attend our annual June Congregational Meeting.  We need to approve the audit of the church finance and elect four deacons.  At least 27 confirmed, communing, contributing members are needed to constitute a quorum to transact this routine, but necessary business.  Please stay.  Thank you.

COUNCIL MEMBERS ARE REMINDED

…that you will be installed in office on Sunday, June 25th, at 10:15 AM (between the services.)  Those who are continuing in office are asked to attend and renew your vows with the four new deacons.

THE AFTER CHURCH FOR LUNCH BUNCH

…invites all to join our merry band for a delightful afternoon of food and fellowship with your family in Christ – this Sunday or any Sunday.  We gather in the elevator lobby at 11:45 AM, decide where to go, and leave at noon aboard the 13 seat church van.  (Each person pays his or her own way and we split the cost of gas.)  Those who wish to join us, but who attend only the traditional service, may return to church to board the van OR if you live in Maytown, Pastor will be happy to pick you up at your house…it’s no trouble – we’d sooner have you with us!  Just tell Pastor if you want picked up, as you leave church.

NEWSLETTER DEADLINE

If you want to contribute an article to the July-August newsletter, please see that Diane gets it by June 25th.

VBS VOLUNTEERS

…we still need helpers with our VBS this year.  If you will help, see Colleen Mackison, Laura Wolfe, or Pastor.  The school is scheduled for July 31 – August 4.  We are especially asking if anyone in the congregation would be willing to set up a model railroad platform in the Social Hall for VBS this year.  The theme of the school is trains.

JOHN LEAS

…was moved from the hospital to ManorCare Home in Elizabethtown on Monday of this past week.  He will take therapy there for another week or more.  If you have any questions, please see Rose.

PASTOR’S JURY DUTY

…originally scheduled for this coming week, has been postponed indefinitely.  No explanation was given.

KRISTIN SIPLING

…will favor us with a solo next Sunday, at the Traditional Service.  Any other potential soloists should speak with Keith.

WELCOME, ALL DADS!

…we greet all fathers who are worshiping with us this Sunday and thank you for the role that you play in your families’ lives, and that of the church.  Our Social Ministry Committee has a chocolate bar for you, after the services.

THANKS TO

…Paul Purnell and Vicki McConnell, for representing St. John’s at this year’s Synod assembly last week, and for keeping Pastor company.

…Dick Shirk, for repairing a broken tombstone in our churchyard.

SOCIAL MINISTRY AT THE JIGGER SHOPPE

…the Social Ministry Committee will enjoy dinner, a brief business meeting and a walk around the cottages at Mr. Gretna tomorrow night.  Pastor will pick up Maytown folks by 6 PM – then he will stop by the church to pick up others; finally, he will pick up the Mount Joy tribe at Judy’s and Gladys’.  Tell Pastor or Louise if you are going and want picked up.

THE PRAISE BAND

...will rehearse on Wednesday nights, from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM during the Summer.  We welcome more singers and instrumentalists to join with us.  Just show up!

A NEW MEMBERS/INQUIRERS CLASS

…will hold its first session on Sunday, July 9, 2006, in the parlor.  The class is a requirement for those who wish to unite with St. John’s, but who come to us from non-Lutheran backgrounds.  It also serves as a refresher course to church basics and is open to those who just want to know what the Lutheran Church is “about”.  Please talk to Pastor as soon as possible, if you might be interested in attending the five or six session class.  When we meet for subsequent sessions will be determined at the July 9th meeting, after comparing participants’ calendars.

WOODY’S ANYONE?

Pastor is proposing to drive the van down to Northeast, Maryland after church on Sunday, August 13…the 28th Anniversary of his Ordination, for our annual “pilgrimage to Woodys” for crab cakes.  A sign-up sheet hangs in the Narthex.  There are 12 available seats.  Please sign-up if you want one.
