Sung originally in Latin, it is 1200 years old and has long been associated with the Rite of Confirmation. They now desire to make public affirmation of their Baptism - making their own, the promises that were, in most cases, made for them by loving parents and sponsors, much earlier in their lives. THE ORDER OF CONFIRMATION - p. 199 #12 P = Pastor R = Catechumen A = Lay Catechist C = All After Prayer #15 is prayed, the Pastor, President, and Catechist go to the altar and assume positions behind and to either side of the kneeler. The Catechumen’s name is called by the Catechist and the student accompanied by their mentor and parents, come forward. The Catechumen kneels, and all place one hand atop the Catechumen’s head, after Pastor has first placed both hands there. After the laying on of hands, and the exchange of the Peace, the Confirmand is presented with several gifts, prior to returning to their place along the rail. The Lord’s Prayer - Traditional The Agnus Dei - p. 39 “Lamb of God” The Distribution The Confirmands will commune first, with their parents and mentors, by kneeling and drinking from the chalice of our ancestors…the 1771 pewter. Then, the congregation will come forward and commune in two standing continuously moving lines. The choir and the “Luther Window” side of the church will come forward via the center aisle, receive the host from the Deacon proceed along the rail to the Confirmand, dip the host in the chalice, commune, and either re-enter the loft or return to your pew via the side aisle. At the same time, those seated on the “Christ Window” side of the church will come forward via the center aisle, receive the host from the Pastor move along the rail to another Confirmand, dip their host in the chalice, commune, and return to their pew via the side aisle. The area under the balcony and those in the balcony should commune last and walk behind either line, so that they are even. All who are baptized and commune in their home church are welcome at our altar. The un-baptized, very young children, and those who do not wish to commune, may come forward for a blessing or stay seated. Indicate your desire by bowing your head before the Pastor or Deacon.. Last time we were there they were so appreciative that they begged us to return! What a blessing to feel so needed. We leave from the church parking lot at 1:15 pm. They suggested that everyone who will receive a payment from the Government to “jump start” the economy be encouraged to give a portion of those un-planned-for-funds to the church’s Building Fund. A great summer job! YOUTH GROUP RUMMAGE SALE: UPDATE  Our annual Youth Group Rummage Sale, scheduled for Saturday May 24th 8am-1pm and Monday May 26th 8am - 12 noon, is fast approaching. For a successful sale, we need YOU as donators, helpers, and customers! As donated items come in, we are sorting, boxing, and labeling them before storing them behind the Ark downstairs. We’d like to encourage you to bring in your donations now, so we can avoid the typical last minute rush. Please place your new, gently used or collectible items on the receiving table in front of the Ark. Our goal is to do as much of the work as early as possible so we may have a preview sale for church members and friends on Friday evening May 23rd from 7pm to 9pm. All soup must be pre-ordered ($3.50 per quart, please bring your own container, if possible) using the “preorder” sign–up sheet posted on the narthex bulletin board. Payment and pick-up will be on Saturday, May 24th from 8am-12 noon. If you have expressed a willingness to donate a cooked chicken and broth or a dozen peeled hard boiled eggs or would like to help by doing so, please sign-up on the “supplies list” which is also posted on the narthex bulletin board. All proceeds from the chicken corn soup sale go to the tower project in Norm Leas’ name. Thank you for your support of this St. John’s tradition. The work of our own Diane Leonard, they are done in the 18th and 19th century Pennsylvania German “Dutch” style know as “Fraktur” from the style of Medieval “broken” lettering. These certificates are unique to our congregation and will, hopefully, be a prized possession of our Confirmands and their families across the generations.
