The agenda for the meeting will be consideration of a proposal to repair the belfry and do additional exterior painting of the church at a cost of $61,000. Read the lead article in the April-May Newsletter that was given or mailed to you for details…note the photos on display on the tower window sill.

Alice Leas is a patient at Lancaster General Hospital. Include her and Tana in your prayers and cards.
VOLUNTEER NEEDED!
We are in need of a few people to help inventory and record our church’s contents for insurance purposes. If you will help, talk to Pastor or Chairman Andy Moss as soon as possible. A great summer job!
YOUTH
GROUP RUMMAGE SALE: UPDATE
Our annual Youth Group Rummage Sale, scheduled for Saturday May 24th 8am-1pm and Monday May 26th 8am - 12 noon, is fast approaching. For a successful sale, we need YOU as donators, helpers, and customers!
As donated items come in, we are sorting, boxing, and labeling them before storing them behind the Ark downstairs. We’d like to encourage you to bring in your donations now, so we can avoid the typical last minute rush. Please place your new, gently used or collectible items on the receiving table in front of the Ark. Our goal is to do as much of the work as early as possible so we may have a preview sale for church members and friends on Friday evening May 23rd from 7pm to 9pm.
If you would like to help, need more information, or would like an item pick-up, please contact Vicki or Sheri. Thank you for your support!
BIBLE
STUDY
…will be meeting Tuesday at 7:30 pm in the parlor, please finish reading James 5 and start 1st Peter - Chapter 1. Come each Tuesday to be enlightened and inspired.

ATTENTION ALL MENTORS!
On May 5th, Pastor will lay before the Congregational Council the names of the Catechumens that he recommends be given the Rite of Confirmation. That means you have only two weeks left to fulfill your role in seeing that your student has:
1. Completed the workbook with you
2. Fulfilled all of the out-of-class experiential requirements for Confirmation
3. Memorized the Apostles’ Creed and Lord’s Prayer and can correctly list the Ten Commandments and say what Baptism and Holy Communion are.
The church is counting on you to shepherd your student in a timely fashion so that, when asked on Sunday, May 4th, “have you done what was expected of you?” the student can say “yes”, and Pastor can make his recommendation. Thanks for your ministry.
ST. JOHN’S RECEIVES ADDITIONAL BEQUEST
Our church has received word that another $1,600 will be coming our way to help pay for the belfry project from the estate of Ceil Marx. What a beautiful thing to keep serving your church after your death, by remembering it in your will. We thank God for Ceil!
MAYTOWN 250TH UPDATE
On Tuesday, April 29, at 7:00 pm, all those who wish to help organize Maytown’s 250th Birthday Bash in 2010 are asked to meet as committees, elect officers, and decide if there are enough resources at our disposal to pull the celebration off. If you care, please come.
URGENT NEED! PLEASE VOLUNTEER!!
After serving our church well, Janet Mohr has decided to resign her positions of Junior Choir Leader, and Contemporary Service Projectionist. Without a choir leader, we will not be able to have a place for our younger singers come September; without a projectionist, the Contemporary Service will face big challenges to foster congregational participation in worship next month. Can you help us? Will you? Please speak to Pastor as soon as possible. Thank you for caring.

A NICE WAY OF HELPING OUR CHURCH
…face the cost of repairing our historic belfry came from a lay member of St. John’s. They suggested that everyone who will receive a payment from the Government to “jump start” the economy be encouraged to give a portion of those un-planned-for-funds to the church’s Building Fund. Think about it, please.
CAPE COD CONGREGATIONAL TRIP
We
need 52 to fill the bus. So far, 47 people have signed-up for our September
18-21 bus trip to Cape Cod.
The deadline for signing-up is May 11, 2008. When you sign-up, a $75 deposit
should be given to either Jan Shelly, Connie Longenecker or Pastor. The balance
of $314 is due August 3, 2008. See details on the tower sheet or talk to a
Fellowship Committee member.
A WORD TO THE FAITHFUL AND THE WISE
This
year, we shall confirm a class of eight on Pentecost, May 11th. That
day is also Mother’s Day. Families that plan on honoring mom with a meal out on
May 11 should make sure that reservations at restaurants are made to be late
enough so you can also attend our full festival service and attend the reception
in the Confirmands’ honor afterwards. The service may not be completed until
noon or slightly later; the
reception lasts as long as you wish. Figure on leaving from church about 12:30
pm or so.
AFTER CHURCH FOR LUNCH BUNCH
Seemed like “old times” last Sunday as 11 of us filled the church van for another wonderful trip to a restaurant after church and an afternoon of fellowship. Everyone is invited to go along on this or any Sunday. Just come to the elevator lobby and wait for Pastor or Paul to get the van - and off we go to yet another gastronomic destination! Join us!!

This Friday, at 7:00 pm, will be our last time to knit and crochet together until September. Please join us, there is still time to learn and start on a project or two for this summer. We have plenty of yarn and patterns to share.
NEW WINDSON DAY TRIP
On Monday, April 28th, at 10 am, Pastor will load the van with 289 pounds of boxed soap bars and many quilts - all donated and made by the congregation - and ferry it down to New Windsor, MD to the Lutheran World Relief Warehouse. If you’d like to go along, tell Pastor. We make a nice day of it, eating a magnificent lunch at Maggie’s…the best cream of crab soup in the UNIVERSE! And doing some antiquing in Westminster. Join us! There’s room for about seven. (It’s a nice ride to do some knitting or crocheting!!)
