CAPE COD CONGREGATIONAL TRIP
We
need 52 to fill the bus. So far, 45 people have signed-up for our September
18-21 bus trip to Cape Cod. The deadline for signing-up is May 11, 2008. When
you sign-up, a $75 deposit should be given to either Jan Shelly, Connie

on the tower sheet or talk to a Fellowship Committee member.
A NICE WAY OF HELPING OUR CHURCH
…face the cost of repairing our historic belfry came from a lay member of St. John’s. They suggested that everyone who will receive a payment from the Government to “jump start” the economy be encouraged to give a portion of those un-planned-for-funds to the church’s Building Fund. Think about it, please.
KNITTING
AND CROCHETING
…we will be meeting this Friday, in the parlor at 7:00 pm. Please join us, we knit, crochet, talk and talk some more and enjoy each other’s company and of course make all sorts of items for good causes. These are projects you can work on while watching TV or riding in the car or waiting for an appointment. If you’re new to knitting or crocheting or a little rusty…we’ll help you get started…see ya Friday!! We’ve had many wonderful items donated, as well as materials...Thank you!! We will be taking time off from our weekly get-togethers after the last Friday of April. But of course continue our projects over the summer months and come together again in the Fall when we will deliver our completed items to the Women’s and Baby Hospital at the Health Campus.
WE
NOTE THE PASSING TO THE CHURCH TRIUMPHANT
…of our sister, Harriet Cassatt Smith, our third oldest member, at 97, on Tuesday of this past week. Harriet was the widow of Bill and a relative of many St. Johners such as Janie Mohr, Connie Longenecker, Bill Leninger, and Charlie Johns. She was a member of our congregation for about 60 years and a life-long Lutheran. Born in Harrisburg, most of her life was lived at her house on West Elizabeth Street, although recent days saw her at Longwood Manor, and she died at the Masonic Homes. Harriet donated the lovely crocheted Lord’s Prayer which hangs near our church mailboxes, and she was active in WELCA, the American Legion Auxiliary, and Eastern Star. A quiet, sweet and dedicated lady, she adorned our church and town, and, by God’s grace, now adorns heaven. We thank Pastor Martin for leading the funeral service due to Pastor’s absence in Washington on the Catechetical trip.
LAST
CHANCE
…any leftovers are to be removed from the kitchen freezer and refrigerator this week or the items will be discarded. Due to the high cost of running the freezer it will be turned off during periods when it is not being utilized.
