FOOD BANK COLLECTION UP-DATE

As of April 7th, we have received 275 cans of pork and beans (25 short of our overall goal) and 130 jars of jelly (170 short of our goal).  We have this Sunday and next to make up the deficits. Please help.  Christ and the poor of our area thank you!

THANKS…..

….to Charlie and Pauline Johns, Jamey Shirk, Glenn Bachert, and Sonia Ross, for accompanying Pastor and the 5 catechumens on last weekend’s WONDERFUL trip to DC! You guys are tops!

….to George McConnell and his “crew”, Pat Vogel and Chris Harnish, for hosting this past week’s great Lenten supper.  44 people attended, and they donated $115.00 more to our ELCA’s Disaster Relief Fund for Japan.

GOOD NEWS

Last Sunday’s store card sale yielded the most receipts ever, at almost $3,000.  Thanks to all who continue to purchase the cards every week.  Five percent of the sales goes into the van procurement fund.

BAD NEWS

On top of his fight with high blood pressure, Pastor now is coping with high blood sugar and began a new medicine for the latter on Friday. He thanks all of those who kindly gave him all those wonderful candies, cakes, pies, cookies etc. over the years, but sadly must ask that such gifts no longer come his way. (He also goes for another stress test on Tuesday.)

FLOWER ORDERS

Today is the deadline for ordering flowers to beautify our Easter sanctuary.  So far, only 21 have been ordered, which is 30 less than usual.  Please use the enclosed order form and give it, and your money, to Pastor or place in Lisa’s box in the outer office.

THE DEADLINE HAS PASSED…..

….for ordering chocolate eggs this year. The final batch will be made tomorrow, starting at 7:30 AM.  Thanks to those who bought the 2,500 eggs that have already been made.  See Czar Baker if you have a question.

ATTENTION: JACK, DICK, JOYCE, MISSY, LISA, AND LAURA---THE MEMORIAL COMMITTEE!

Please gather at the rear of the sanctuary, following today’s service, for a brief meeting to consider a plan to use General Memorial Fund monies to pay for a drop ladder in the balcony ceiling. The Property Committee has approved the plan and so has Council, pending your endorsement.

FACING SURGERY THIS WEEK ARE:

Butch Boyer, who will have a type of cancer surgery at Hershey Medical Center on Wednesday, and Pork Heinaman, who will undergo a back operation at Lancaster General tomorrow. Our prayers attend both men.

PALM SUNDAY BREAKFAST--NEXT SUNDAY!!!!!

Don’t forget to eat your breakfast at church next Sunday, as guests of the Social Ministry Committee and some of our male chefs.

Come anywhere between 9:00 AM and 9:45 AM---and feast on a menu of orange juice, scrambled eggs, sausage, pancakes, hot cross buns, danish, coffee, tea, and milk!   A donation basket invites any contributions, but the meal is free and open to all. Bring your family, friends and neighbors….and ask them to stay for the special service later.  Let’s have a great turn-out!

PALM SUNDAY SPECIAL SERVICE!

Next Sunday’s Palm Sunday service promises to be a very special one, with a chancel drama performed by 10 actors…most in new costumes….a superb anthem by our choir….and a wonderful duet by Margie Landis and Rose Barr --Andrew Lloyd Weber’s moving “Pie Jesu”.  Of course, we will also have the usual palms and the singing of some great seasonal hymns…so please make sure you are in a pew!

ATTENTION PALM SUNDAY PLAY ACTORS!

1.  Make sure you have a Biblical costume that fits and that is marked with your name tag.   Costumes hang on a rack in the youth room or are in the process of being made by Diane and Vernetta.

2.  Mark your calendars for the following rehearsal times:

Saturday, April 16 at 11 AM

Sunday, April 17, at 9:30 AM

The performance is on Palm Sunday, April 17, at 10:30 AM.

EASTER EGG HUNT…..

St. John’s will be hosting their annual Easter Egg Hunt, Saturday, April 23rd at 2:00 PM. Please invite your family, friends, and neighbors. We will hold the egg hunt and then candy roll. Following this we will move to the Social Hall to view the DVD “Bed Bug Bible Gang,” make a craft and eat snacks. In order to hold another successful event we need your help. Sign up sheets have been posted in the Narthex for eggs to hide along with snacks and drinks to be serves following the egg hunt. Thank you in advance for your participation.

EASTER EGG HUNT DONATIONS SOLICITED

A sign-up sheet hangs in the tower inviting your donation of the following items for our egg hunt on Holy Saturday, April 23:

We need:

Plastic eggs filled with candy                      Large bag of peanuts

Drinks (3 gallons, varied)                            Cookies

Chips                                                              Pretzels

ANYONE INTERESTED IN SINGING…..

….a solo, duet, trio, or choral piece for this year’s Memorial Day Patriotic Musicale is invited to attend a rehearsal today at 2 PM.

See Keith if you have a question.  (Instrumentalists are also welcome to perform.)  You pick the number.  There is no theme this year.  The “offering” collected at the event benefits veterans programs.

We also need adults and teens to help serve ice cream and strawberries after the concert, to a crowd that usually numbers over 200.  See Pastor if you’ll help. Thank you.

LUTHERAN HISTORICAL SOCIETY EVENT….

The spring meeting of the Lutheran Historical Society of Lancaster County will be held Sunday, April 10th at 3:00 PM at Zion Lutheran Church, 18 Quarry Road, Leola. The Rev. Newell Embley will give us a history of the church. A short business meeting and refreshments will follow.
