This Special Service Employs
the GREEN Hymnal.
At the sound of the chimes, the congregation rises and faces the Pastor, Lector, and Crucifer, who stand at the annex door, in the rear of the sanctuary.
pastor: Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.
people: Hosanna to the son of David.
pastor: The Lord be with you.
people: and also with you.
pastor: Let us pray. Mercifully assist us, O’ Lord, God of our salvation that we may enter with joy upon the contemplation of those mighty acts whereby you have given us life everlasting; through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord.
people: amen.
the processional gospel – lUKE 19:28-40
At the conclusion of the Reading, all raise their palm branches in the air and keep them lifted up until the hymn.
pastor: The Lord be with you.
people: and also with you.
pastor: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
people: it is right to give him thanks and praise.
pastor: We praise and thank you, O God, for the great acts of love by which you have redeemed us through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord.
On this day, he entered the Holy City of Jerusalem in triumph, and was acclaimed Son of David and King of Kings by those who scattered their garments and branches of palm in His path.
We ask that you bless these branches, and those who bare them, and grant that we may ever hail Him as our Lord and King, and follow Him with perfect confidence; through you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
people: amen.
pastor: Let us go forth in peace.
people: in the name of the lord.

SOAP!
The
Social Ministry Committee is again asking the congregation to support a
collection of bath size bars of soap which will be given to Lutheran World
Relief. Our goal this year is 1,000 bars. Please remember to buy soap each
time you go to the grocery store and bring it to church with you, setting it in
the laundry basket in the tower window sill. So far, 719 bars of soap have been
given. Let’s all contribute to a cleaner, healthier human family!
AN URGENT NEED
…exists for people to serve as Head Ushers. Please sign up TODAY. Head ushers enlist 3 or 4 others to usher at each of the Sundays in the month. Charlie Johns is the resource person/supervisor of the program. Questions may be addressed to him.
YOUTH GROUP RUMMAGE SALE:
WE NEED YOUR HELP
Please
mark your calendars…
The annual youth group rummage sale has been scheduled for the Memorial Day weekend. We will be open for business in our social hall on Saturday, May 24th from 8am to 1pm and Monday, May 26th from 8am-12noon.
The rummage sale has been a major fund raiser for our youth program for years. Now more than ever, a successful rummage sale depends upon the participation of our congregation. If you are available, we could use your help in setting up, selling, and/or packing up the weekend of the sale. We need your new, gently used or collectible items as merchandise (we will pick up and store items beginning now). And of course, we need you as customers. Please contact Vicki or Sheri for further information or item pick-up. Thank you.
ANYONE INTERESTED IN JOINING ST. JOHN’S AS A MEMBER
…should let Pastor know of your desire. A class on Lutheran Christianity, which is a requirement for those who do not come from Lutheran backgrounds, will be offered in April and May, if the need exists. Persons transferring to St. John’s from other Lutheran congregations and those confirmed and raised in such churches need not attend the class, but are welcome to do so.

ANYONE INTERESTED
…in helping Maytown celebrate our 250th Birthday in 2010 is urged to speak with Pastor as soon as possible. There is a special need for people to join a finance/development committee so that the event can be funded, but other committees needing staff are program, historical, decorations, souvenirs, arrangements, hospitality/invitations, food, and publicity. On May 1st, a decision will be made to go ahead with the celebration or not, based upon volunteer support. Fifty people have signed up so far, but only five have agreed to serve on the finance committee, and that must increase if we are to have the event.

KNITTING AND CROCHETING
