The Choir communes first. Then, if seated on the “Luther Window” side of the church, you come forward via the side aisle, take a cup from the tray held by the acolyte, and kneel along the right side of the rail – no further than the center gate. When you have received both elements, return to your seat via the center aisle, placing your cup in the tray held by the usher. The “Christ Window” side of the church comes forward via the center aisle, and returns via the side aisle, the balconly divides, taking the shortest line.
All who are Baptized, who commune in their home churches, and who believe that Christ is present in this communion, offering the faithful the forgiveness of sins and strength for living the Christian life, are welcome at the table. The un-Baptized, very young children, and those who do not wish to commune, may stay seated or come forward for a blessing. Do not take a cup and bow before the Pastor to signal your intention not to commune.

the musical returns!
Keith has announced his willingness to again serve as an accompanist at our Memorial Day Musicale. At the same time, plans are afoot to have special offerings designated for the support of our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. If you’d like to be part of this year’s musical extravaganza, featuring the music of Broadway, tell Pastor or Keith as soon as possible. We have only three months to prepare. Needed are singers (soloists, duets, chorus singers), instrumentalists, and dancers. Let’s put on a show!

LENTEN SUPPER #2
Join your family-in-Christ around a table in the social hall this Wednesday at 6 PM for a delicious meal of beef noodle soup and egg salad sandwiches, served by our WELCA, and a video with discussion and devotions. Last Wednesday we had 82 diners who gave offerings of $168. Thanks to our youth, Pat Vogel, George McConnell, Charlie Johns and Sue Frank!
we thank the family of elaine fuhrman
…for asking that donations be given to St. John’s in her memory. Gifts of over $500 have been received thus far.
a new TV with dvd and vhs capability
…has been donated to the church by Pastor in memory of his mother, Mary Evelyn Anderson Lescallette. It is being used to show the Lenten video. Thanks “P.B.”!!
please help!
Repeated calls for volunteers to sign up to serve as Head Usher during the months of March, April, and May have gone un-heeded. If no one signs up today, visitors will have to seat themselves, offering plates will not be passed, and bulletins will have to be self-serve. If this is not what you want to happen, you need to sign up. Thank you.
a troubling word about financial stewardship
When one compares January and February of 2007 to the same time period of 2006, one discovers that giving to the church is down by almost one third or $6,400! Only World Hunger is holding its own. Benevolence is behind by $177; the Building Fund is behind by $238; and the Current/Operating fund is behind by $5,518 compared to Y.T.D. budgetary goals. Moreover, the Seminarian Support Appeal has had only two donors this year, and they gave $32 – which is $800 behind where it should be. Generous gifts from the Memorial Fund and one individual donor – plus the Tupperware sale – have done well vis a vis the sound system funding – so that is very encouraging. If you can help turn things around, especially with Current and the Seminarian Support fund, we thank you!
ATTENTION YOUTH
…we WILL meet tonight! We need to plan for March, April, and May so please attend and bring along your school calendars. We will need to reschedule some of the events. Hope to see everyone there....plan on eating meatball sandwiches. Thanks to everyone who helped with the first Lenten supper. What a fantastic turn out and a gigantic THANKS to Charlie!

FELLOWSHIP TRIP TO ASHEVILLE
June 21-24 our church is sponsoring a wonderful trip to Asheville, NC to see the Vanderbilt estate, ride a train, tour a folk park, and do lots of other fun things together. A flyer with specifics can be found in the Narthex or you can talk to Bill Earhart, Connie Longenecker, Jan Shelly, or Paul and Judy Purnell. The cost of the four-day trip by bus is $510 per person (double occupancy). Payment of a $75 deposit is due when you sign-up, but definitely before March 12th. Because we need to have at least 35 people for the trip to go forward, we are immediately contacting other area churches and groups – so St. Johners should not wait in signing up as soon as possible. Let’s have a good turn out for this fun trip! Please note that there is only one week left to sign up for this trip. We still need at least 17 more to make it a go.
