The Distribution Kneeling, continuous.
The choir communes first. Next, those seated on the Luther Window side of the nave come forward via the side aisle, take a communion glass from the acolyte, kneel along the rail as far as the gate; at the same time, those on the Christ Window side of the nave come forward via the center aisle, get a glass, and kneel along their half of the rail. When you receive both elements, return to your pew, with the Luther side using the center aisle and the Christ side, their side aisle. Those seated in the balcony should divide.
The un-baptized, the very young, and those who do not wish to commune may stay in their pews or come forward for a blessing. Do not take a glass so the pastor will know of your intent.

The
Social Ministry Committee is again asking the congregation to support a
collection of bath size bars of soap which will be given to Lutheran World
Relief. Our goal this year is 1,000 bars. Please remember to buy soap each
time you go to the grocery store and bring it to church with you, setting it in
the laundry basket in the tower window sill. So far, 350 bars of soap have been
given. Let’s all contribute to a cleaner, healthier human family!

YOUTH GROUP RUMMAGE SALE:
WE NEED YOUR HELP
Please
mark your calendars…
The annual youth group rummage sale has been scheduled for the Memorial Day weekend. We will be open for business in our social hall on Saturday, May 24th from 8am to 1pm and Monday, May 26th from 8am-12noon.
The rummage sale has been a major fund raiser for our youth program for years. Now more than ever, a successful rummage sale depends upon the participation of our congregation. If you are available, we could use your help in setting up, selling, and/or packing up the weekend of the sale. We need your new, gently used or collectible items as merchandise (we will pick up and store items beginning now). And of course, we need you as customers. Please contact Vicki or Sheri for further information or item pick-up. Thank you.
THANKS TO
…Connie Longenecker and Linda Sipling for helping Charlie Johns with the sound system. If you’d like to learn how to operate it, just talk to Charlie.
ANYONE INTERESTED IN JOINING ST. JOHN’S AS A MEMBER
…should let Pastor know of your desire. A class on Lutheran Christianity, which is a requirement for those who do not come from Lutheran backgrounds, will be offered in April and May, if the need exists. Persons transferring to St. John’s from other Lutheran congregations and those confirmed and raised in such churches need not attend the class, but are welcome to do so.
IT’S
EASTER EGG TIME!
The Women of the church will have handmade Easter egg candy available. Order blanks are at each entrance to the church. Orders may be placed in the same basket. The cost is $3.90 per ½ dozen. Orders will be filled in the sequence they are received and may be picked up anytime after 12 noon on Mondays. If you have time to help with the project any Monday morning, please consider aiding our small group to package the eggs and fill orders. We are applying to Thrivent Financial for matching funds for our congregation.

ANYONE
INTERESTED
…in helping Maytown celebrate our 250th Birthday in 2010 is urged to speak with Pastor as soon as possible. There is a special need for people to join a finance/development committee so that the event can be funded, but other committees needing staff are program, historical, decorations, souvenirs, arrangements, hospitality/invitations, food, and publicity. On May 1st, a decision will be made to go ahead with the celebration or not, based upon volunteer support. Fifty people have signed up so far, but only one has agreed to serve on the finance committee, and that must increase if we are to have the event.
MEMBERSHIP LOSSES
Mark Myers, an inactive baptized member, transferred to St. Paul United Methodist Church in Chambersburg. Bill and Sandy Wittick resigned from the congregation. Karen Adams, and Kip, Kyle, and Kris Embly were discovered to have joined Trinity Lutheran Church in Mount Joy some time ago. Peter Hoffines, an inactive confirmed member, was removed from the rolls.
HOSPITALIZED - Harriet Smith - LGH room 6905
Harriet had a heart attack and stroke last Saturday. She is our third oldest member at 97 ½.

KNITTING AND CROCHETING UPDATE
So far we have six baby caps and three sets of booties made. Several baby blankets are near completion as well as a pair of “baby sport socks” and prayer shawls and lap robes are also being worked on. There are many patterns to choose from. These are projects you can work on while watching TV or riding in the car or waiting for an appointment. Sounds like fun? Come join us every Friday evening in the parlor beginning at 7:00. If you don’t know how to knit or crochet, or maybe just a little “rusty”, we can teach you or refresh your memory.
