SOUPER BOWL COLLECTION – THANKS ST. JOHN’S
Great Job!! Eight cans of soup and $118 was donated by the congregation to last Sunday’s Youth Group sponsored “Souper Bowl”. God’s poor thank you.
ACTORS NEEDED
On Palm Sunday, we shall again offer the congregation an adult chancel drama. This year’s play is entitled “The Decision” and it requires a cast of seven men and women. If you will help us by acting in the play – talk to Pastor as soon as possible. Parts are not difficult, but actors must be willing to memorize their lines. Thanks for helping us have a more meaningful Lent!
HOPE TOTES
The Women of the Church have started a collection of personal care items for the Women’s shelter in Wrightsville. Our goal is to present them with these gifts on Valentines Day. A basket is on the tower window sill to receive any items you wish to contribute. The donations have been wonderful, still needed are: hair brushes, combs, tissues, lip balm and socks. Thank you for your giving to this project.
ATTENTION ALL COMMITTEES AND GROUPS
Your photo will be taken at February meetings of your body – so please make sure that you are present. The photos will appear in the new pictoral directories, which we hope to have in your hands by Easter.

THERE IS AN IMMEDIATE NEED
…for someone to serve as St. John’s representative on the Home of Hope (temporary shelter) Board. The representative agrees to attend a monthly meeting at the Mount Joy’s “Simplee Seafood” restaurant on the second Wednesday of each month, from Noon until about 2:00 PM. They then convey needs to the congregation and the local task force – which manages the Kline Trailer Park home, and carry our concerns back to the Board. Please speak to Pastor or Vicki McConnell TODAY if you have a question about the job or wish to volunteer.
LIST OF MOST PRESSING NEEDS REGARDING VOLUNTEERS/DONERS
1. Head Usher for months of March to July, and October – sign up on tower sheet
2. Bulletin donors for today; and all of April – sign up on tower sheet.
3. Male confirmed, communing member who will accompany Pastor to the Synod Assembly at Gettysburg College, June 8 to 9. All ages welcome from teen to 96. Talk to Pastor today. Thanks to Betty Henny for agreeing to be our female representative
ANY COLLEGE STUDENT OR SOMEONE WHO IS CURRENTLY A COLLEGE GRADUATE
…and who is considering a call to the ordained ministry in the Lutheran Church or some other church vocation is invited to attend a free “Seminary Weekend” at Gettysburg Seminary from April 13 – 15, 2007. Housing, meals, transportation, and all costs are paid for by the Seminary. This is an excellent opportunity for those who are trying to decide what calling God has in mind for them, to experience what it’s like to be a Seminarian. Both those who are embarking on their first career and those who might be interested in changing careers, are welcome to attend. See Pastor if interested, and he will give you the necessary contact information and paperwork.
PHOTO DIRECTORY
77 of our 100 member households got their photo taken for our new pictoral directory. If you were among those who did not get photographed, we really ask you to do so. Simply talk to Jan Shelly at 653-5383 and she will arrange for you to be photographed by Olan Mills at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, in Bainbridge on February 23 and 24. You are under no obligation to buy the photos, but you get proofs and one 8x10 free – plus you help our church by a) helping new members learn to know us and b) helping our church to get more free copies of the directory for distribution. Every household that is photographed gets a free directory. Also, if you have had any problem with your Olan Mills order, call them, or call Jan, and the problem will be corrected. Thanks for your cooperation in this important ministry!
ON FEBRUARY 18TH
…the Newsletter will be distributed and all worshipers will be given a Lenten Journal and symbolic bronze nail to aid you in your Lenten devotions. Please be present to receive yours so that you can start your discipline on Ash Wednesday, the 21st.
EARLY SPRING CLEANING
…of the freezer. If you have any item(s) you placed in the church freezer, please remove the today so the freezer can be cleaned and serviced. Thank you.
FELLOWSHIP TRIP TO ASHEVILLE
June 21-24 our church is sponsoring a wonderful trip to Asheville, NC to see the Vanderbilt estate, ride a train, tour a folk park, and do lots of other fun things together. A flyer with specifics can be found in the Narthex or you can talk to Bill Earhart, Connie Longenecker, Jan Shelly, or Paul and Judy Purnell. The cost of the four-day trip by bus is $510 per person (double occupancy). Payment of a $75 deposit is due when you sign-up, but definitely before March 12th. Because we need to have at least 35 people for the trip to go forward, we are immediately contacting other area churches and groups – so St. Johners should not wait in signing up as soon as possible. Let’s have a good turn out for this fun trip!
COMING SOON – SHROVE TUESDAY!
Circle your calendars and come to this year’s Shrove Tuesday/Mardi Gras Party at church! The Fellowship Committee has planned a battery of comic movies, shown in the Saint’s Cinema – complete with gourmet popcorn, soda, and candy. There will also be a make-your-own-sundae bar, Jan’s famous beads, and lots of cards and board games available. Further nourishment will be had by devouring fasnachts! Join us for the “family” time – and bring friends and neighbors! All ages welcome!!
THE MAYTOWN HISTORICAL SOCIETY
…is selling chicken corn soup and ham and cheese sandwiches. Soup costs $4.00 a quart and sandwiches are $2.00 each. A sign-up sheet to place your order hangs in the tower Narthex.
