“big” thank you to the person or persons who cleaned up after the Ash Wednesday

work to do it. Again Thank
You! Wanda
LIKE TO BE PART OF A NICE GROUP OF PEOPLE
…who get to plan fellowship events for our church, who enjoy gourmet meal/snacks at our meetings, and who sure could use some more helpers? If that is YOU, talk to Pastor or just show up at Connie Longenecker and Bill Earhart’s house on Groff Avenue, in Elizabethtown, this Thursday at 7:00 pm.

MARDI GRAS/SHROVE TUESDAY 2008
A big thank you to our Fellowship Committee - Connie Longenecker, Bill Earhart, Jan Shelly, Alice Leas, and Pastor for hosting a fine “Fun Night” last Tuesday - and for generously donating all the food. Twenty-one adults and 12 children and youth supported the event with their attendance. They played Dominos, Password, Uno, Scatagories, and a host of card games, and devoured four and one half dozen Fasnachts, three dozen hot ham and cheese sandwiches, stuffed dates, chips, cream puffs, bologna, cheese, veggies, soda, coffee, and hot chocolate. It was grand!

YOUTH GROUP RUMMAGE SALE:
WE NEED YOUR HELP
Please
mark your calendars…
The annual youth group rummage sale has been scheduled for the Memorial Day weekend. We will be open for business in our social hall on Saturday, May 24th from 8am to 1pm and Monday, May 26th from 8am-12noon.
The rummage sale has been a major fund raiser for our youth program for years. Now more than ever, a successful rummage sale depends upon the participation of our congregation. If you are available, we could use your help in setting up, selling, and/or packing up the weekend of the sale. We need your new, gently used or collectible items as merchandise (we will pick up and store items beginning now). And of course, we need you as customers. Please contact Vicki or Sheri for further information or item pick-up. Thank you.

ANYONE INTERESTED IN JOINING ST. JOHN’S AS A MEMBER
…should let Pastor know of your desire. A class on Lutheran Christianity, which is a requirement for those who do not come from Lutheran backgrounds, will be offered in April and May, if the need exists. Persons transferring to St. John’s from other Lutheran congregations and those confirmed and raised in such churches need not attend the class, but are welcome to do so.

SOUP AND SANDWICH SALE
The
Maytown Historical Society will hold a Soup and Sandwich
sale on Saturday, February 16th. The profits from the sale will aid
the restoration of the Hastings House, a 1760 era log house that is the site of
the Maytown/East Donegal Museum. The beef vegetable soup is $3.50 per quart.
The ham and cheese sandwiches are $2.00 each. To order, sign up on the sheets
posted in the narthex and elevator lobby or call 426-3262 or 426-2786.
SOAP!
The Social Ministry Committee is again asking the congregation to support a collection of bath size bars of soap which will be given to Lutheran World Relief. Our goal this year is 1,000 bars. Please remember to buy soap each time you go to the grocery store and bring it to church with you, setting in the tower window sill. Pastor has started us out with 48 bars - so we are almost 5% on our way to achieving the target! Let’s all contribute to a cleaner, healthier human family!
FELLOWSHIP
TRIP - DEADLINE TODAY!
If our church is again going to sponsor an over-night, multiple day bus trip to either Western Long Island - the Hamptons, or Cape Cod in the fall, we MUST have a larger indication of congregational support. So far only about 15 people have indicated a willingness to go on a trip and we cannot begin to plan in earnest until about 20 or more of you express an interest. Please take the time to check out the display in the tower window sill and fill out a form. You must take action this Sunday or next. Fellowship trips are always great fun, they are affordable vacations, and best of all, they help us to get to know one another better. Tell our Fellowship Committee that you value their work by signing up today! Thank you!
IT’S
EASTER EGG TIME!
The Women of the church will have handmade Easter Egg candy available beginning February 11th. Order blanks are at each entrance to the church. Orders may be placed in the same basket. The cost is $3.90 per ½ dozen. Orders will be filled in the sequence they are received and may be picked up anytime after 12 noon on Mondays. If you have time to help with the project any Monday morning, please consider aiding our small group to package the eggs and fill orders. We are applying to Thrivent Financial for matching funds for our congregation.
MAYTOWN 250TH?
In
May of 2010, Maytown will celebrate the town’s 250th Birthday. If a
celebration is to be mounted that is anything like the grand anniversaries of
1910, 1960, and 1985, it will take the volunteerism of many people, in every
town organization, to pull it off. If you would be willing to help plan and
carry the celebration off, PLEASE come to a meeting in our church’s social hall
on Tuesday, February 19, at 7:00 pm. Pastor will chair the meeting, whose
object will be to determine if there is enough community-wide support to go
ahead with the endeavor. All residents of East
Donegal Township are welcome to lend a
hand.
