WE PREPARE TO WORSHIP GOD
The Prelude Music – “Send the Light”” H. Livingston, Jr.
WE PRAISE GOD
The Processional Hymn – “Jesus Calls Us O’er the Tumult”
Sung standing
1. Jesus calls us; o’er the tumult
Of our life’s wild, restless sea,
Day by day his clear voice sounding,
Saying, “Christian, follow me.”
2. As of old St. Andrew heard it
By the Galilean lake,
Turned from home and toil and kindred,
Leaving all for his dear sake.
3. Jesus calls us from the worship
Of the vain world’s golden store,
From each idol that would keep us,
Saying, “Christian, love me more.”
4. In our joys and in our sorrows,
Days of toil and hours of ease,
Still he calls, in cares and pleasures,
“Christian, love me more than these.”
5. Jesus calls us! In your mercy,
Savior, make us hear your call,
Give our hearts to your obedience,
Serve and love you best of all.

Thank you for your giving to this project.

THERE IS AN IMMEDIATE NEED
…for someone to serve as St. John’s representative on the Home of Hope (temporary shelter) Board. The representative agrees to attend a monthly meeting at the Mount Joy’s “Simplee Seafood” restaurant on the second Wednesday of each month, from Noon until about 2:00 PM. They then convey needs to the congregation and the local task force – which manages the Kline Trailer Park home, and carry our concerns back to the Board. Please speak to Pastor or Vicki McConnell TODAY if you have a question about the job or wish to volunteer.

We are on a mission to fight hunger and poverty. You can help!!
Since 1990, the Souper Bowl of Caring has raised more than $33 million for individual charities across the country. It is also turning our nation’s biggest weekend of football into its largest weekend of giving. Each year, tens of thousands of our nation’s youth put God’s love into action through the Souper Bowl of Caring. You can help them feel the significance of caring for others. Drop a dollar in a soup pot today as you leave worship. Your donation will go directly to a charity right here in our community. With your help, more dollars will be raised, more lives will be changed, and more young people will experience the joy of serving Christ by serving others.
THANKS!
…to all my friends at St. John’s for your prayers, concerns and love you’ve conveyed during my illness. A special thank you to the Longs, Nells and Vogels for the delicious meals that always arrived at the right time. Also the Social Ministry committee for the book about a favorite subject…gardens!

LIST OF MOST PRESSING NEEDS REGADING VOLUNTEERS/DONERS

2. Bulletin donors for February 11; March 11 and 25; and all of April – sign up on tower sheet.

ANY COLLEGE STUDENT OR SOMEONE WHO IS CURRENTLY A COLLEGE GRADUATE
…and who is considering a call to the ordained ministry in the Lutheran Church or some other church vocation is invited to attend a free “Seminary Weekend” at Gettysburg Seminary from April 13 – 15, 2007. Housing, meals, transportation, and all costs are paid for by the Seminary. This is an excellent opportunity for those who are trying to decide what calling God has in mind for them, to experience what it’s like to be a Seminarian. Both those who are embarking on their first career and those who might be interested in changing careers, are welcome to attend. See Pastor if interested, and he will give you the necessary contact information and paperwork.
PHOTO DIRECTORY
77 of our 100 member households got their photo taken for our new pictoral directory. If you were among those who did not get photographed, we really ask you to do so. Simply talk to Jan Shelly at 653-5383 and she will arrange for you to be photographed by Olan Mills at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, in Bainbridge on February 23 and 24. You are under no obligation to buy the photos, but you get proofs and one 8x10 free – plus you help our church by a) helping new members learn to know us and b) helping our church to get more free copies of the directory for distribution. Every household that is photographed gets a free directory. Also, if you have had any problem with your Olan Mills order, call them, or call Jan, and the problem will be corrected. Thanks for your cooperation in this important ministry!
STEWARDS OF ST. JOHN’S
Our congregation did a wonderful job of giving in the month of December, so that we not only ended the year “in the black” but even had a nice surplus. Unfortunately, January’s offerings are not nearly so good, and we are already behind budget goals by several thousand dollars. Please give as generously and faithfully as you can – and don’t forget our special appeals for Seminarian Support and a New Sound System.
FELLOWSHIP TRIP TO ASHEVILLE
June 21-24 our church is sponsoring a wonderful trip to Asheville, NC to see the Vanderbilt estate, ride a train, tour a folk park , and do lots of other fun things together. A flyer with specifics can be found in the Narthex or you can talk to Bill Earhart, Connie Longenecker, Jan Shelly, or Paul and Judy Purnell. The cost of the four-day trip by bus is $510 per person (double occupancy). Payment of a $75 deposit is due when you sign-up, but definitely before March 12th. Because we need to have at least 35 people for the trip to go forward, we are immediately contacting other area churches and groups – so St. Johners should not wait in signing up as soon as possible. Let’s have a good turn out for this fun trip!
DANCE-A-THON
Kelsey Hafer seeks sponsors for her participation in a Penn State fundraiser that benefits seriously ill children served by the Hershey Medical Center’s “Four Diamonds Fund”. See the Narthex posting for details – or talk to Sheri.
ON FEBRUARY 18TH
…the Newsletter will be distributed and all worshipers will be given a Lenten Journal and symbolic bronze nail to aid you in your Lenten devotions. Please be present to receive yours so that you can start your discipline on Ash Wednesday, the 21st.
COMING SOON – SHROVE TUESDAY!
Circle your calendars and come to this year’s Shrove Tuesday/Mardi Gras Party at church! The Fellowship Committee has planned a battery of comic movies, shown in the Saint’s Cinema – complete with gourmet popcorn, soda, and candy. There will also be a make-your-own-sundae bar, Jan’s famous beads, and lots of cards and board games available. Further nourishment will be had by devouring fasnachts! Join us for the “family” time – and bring friends and neighbors! All ages welcome!!
COMPUTER TO RETIRE
If you or your committee/group have any files on the “old retiring computer”, that you need to be transferred to the new computer, please do so. If you need help in the transfer, talk to Dick Baker and he will arrange for Jeff to help with the task. The retirement will take place in the very near future.
