WELCOME, AMY!
We welcome Amy Chapman to our Praise Band today. Amy will be playing the second odd-numbered Sunday of each month and, therefore, alternating with our other pianists, Keith and Marilyn. We thank her for her willingness to help us lead worship.
ATTENTION EVERYONE…especially “spaghetti lovers”
The Youth Group will be serving a spaghetti dinner Today immediately following traditional church service. The money raised will fund the activities planned for the Youth Group this coming summer. Please support the youth by enjoying a delicious spaghetti dinner cooked by George McConnell with assistance from the Youth Group! We are asking for a $5 donation per person.
ATTENTION ALL CHRISTIAN EDUCATION TEACHERS, AIDES, ETC.
Anyone having anything to do with the leadership of our Christian Education Program here at St. John’s is invited to share in a night out at the Tokyo Diner in Lancaster – a Japanese restaurant like Beni-hana. Our reservation is for 6:30 PM on Saturday and you can either drive to the Chelsea Square site directly or form a van-car caravan from church at 6:00 PM. See Missy Chapman if you plan on going along.
ANNUAL MEETING REPORT
Last Sunday, the congregation approved the proposed budget and elected Denny Weller as a Deacon. They also approved the proposal to improve our sound system and to fund the project through a combination of $5,000 taken from the Memorial Fund and the balance raised by individual and group “new money” donations. A “loan” can be obtained from our Building Fund if gifts are not received in sufficient amount, in time to pay the contractor. See JoNan Shirk if you have a question.
REFERENCES CHECKED…for RMT Sound
On January 22nd Pat Vogel check the following references…
Spanish Church of God, Reading, PA. - Pastor Efrain Ortiz
– 300 members
Ralph Thompson performed a great job. No problems – great system. Three folks within the congregation maintain and prepare the system for their activities. System in place for one year. Approximately $20,000 spent.
Spies Zion, Reading, PA – Pastor Merrill Marisseau
– 350 members
Ralph Thompson is very experienced. Equipment installed is good. Ralph offered many good suggestions. He performs all sound system duties for Alvernia College in Reading. He provided training for their members. Approximately $10,000 spent.
St. Paul Lutheran, Millersville, PA – Robert Nace, member responsible for system
– 500 members
Have worked with Ralph Thompson over the last two years. They continue to upgrade – just added a new mixer and four wireless microphones. His work is quite satisfactory. Mr. Nace expressed the need for members to work with the system and use it to it’s fullest potential. He records, for example, the Christmas Eve music and makes CD’s. Approximately $5,000 spent.

THERE IS AN IMMEDIATE NEED
…for someone to serve as St. John’s representative on the Home of Hope (temporary shelter) Board. The representative agrees to attend a monthly meeting at the Mount Joy’s “Simplee Seafood” restaurant on the second Wednesday of each month, from Noon until about 2:00 PM. They then convey needs to the congregation and the local task force – which manages the Kline Trailer Park home, and carry our concerns back to the Board. Please speak to Pastor or Vicki McConnell TODAY if you have a question about the job or wish to volunteer.

Souper Bowl Sunday
Next Sunday, 140 million people all over the world will tune in to the Super Bowl football game. There will be parties with abundant food, friendship and fellowship. At the same time, there will be people worrying about staying warm, finding shelter and a warm meal. Please join young people around the US as they demonstrate God’s love by loving their neighbors through the Souper Bowl of Caring. It’s a simple, yet significant act of caring for others. Drop $1 in the soup pot as you leave worship next Sunday. Those who need help may not know that you cared, but God will. And our young people are developing hearts for giving that can last a lifetime. Please support their efforts.

FAIR TRADE SEMINAR INVITATION
On Saturday, February 3, 2007, there is a Synod-sponsored workshop called “Faith and Fair Trade: What’s God Got to do With It?”. It will be held at Trindle Springs Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg, between the hours of 8:30 AM and 2:15 PM. Cost is $5.00 and includes lunch. Fair trade will be the topic that the Adult Sunday School will be discussing in February also. This would, therefore, be a great time to join other Lutherans in learning how the ELCA participates in helping farmers and craftspeople around the world, by the ability to sell their products at a “fair” price and bring self reliance to their families and villages. If further questions remain, please talk to Becky Thomas.
HOPE TOTES
The Women of the Church have started a collection of personal care items for the Women’s shelter in Wrightsville. Our goal is to present them with these gifts on Valentines Day. A basket is on the tower window sill to receive any items you wish to contribute. The donations have been wonderful, still needed are: hair brushes, combs, tissues, lip balm and socks. Thank you for your giving to this project.
